Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Bull and The Hide on Devonshire Row, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical four-star hotel. The building has this gorgeous blend of contemporary design with touches that nod to the City’s financial heritage — I mean, you’re literally steps from Liverpool Street in one of London’s most dynamic business districts. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which honestly sets the tone perfectly for what’s inside.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re right in the heart of the City of London, but tucked away on a quieter street that doesn’t feel completely frantic. Liverpool Street station is practically around the corner, so getting anywhere in London is ridiculously easy. The area buzzes during the week with City workers, but there’s something quite charming about experiencing this side of London — especially in the evenings when the crowds thin out and you can actually appreciate the historic architecture mixed with those gleaming modern towers.
The Room
The rooms here are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. Mine had this really nice balance of modern comfort with subtle nods to British heritage — think quality fabrics and rich colors that don’t scream “hotel chain.” The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for central London, and honestly, after walking around the City all day, that rainfall shower was exactly what I needed. The bed was properly comfortable too, which isn’t always a given at this price point.
Dining & Atmosphere
The ground floor restaurant and bar area has this warm, welcoming vibe that works whether you’re grabbing a quick business breakfast or settling in for dinner. The menu leans British with a contemporary twist — nothing too experimental, but everything I tried was well-executed. What really stood out was how the staff seemed to know their regulars, creating this almost neighborhood pub feeling despite being in such a corporate area. The cocktails were particularly good, actually.
Why Guests Love It
Look, The Bull and The Hide isn’t trying to be the flashiest hotel in London, and that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s got personality without being gimmicky, comfort without being boring, and a location that puts you right where you want to be without the chaos of staying directly on a main thoroughfare. Whether you’re here for business or exploring London, there’s something refreshing about a place that feels more like a really well-run boutique hotel than a corporate box. Plus, at an 8.2 rating, clearly other guests are picking up on what makes this place special too.
Early hotels booking in London secures West End tickets, rooftop cocktail nights, and small-group afternoon tea sessions.

"A great location for a short trip."
Location brilliant...quite quiet so close to train station
The 'honest' guest pantry was fab for tea and coffee and snacks
What could be improved: It's a tall building so many flights of narrow stairs. This needs to be highlighted for older or infirm guests.

"A modestly priced hotel in a quiet location very close to Liverpool Street station"
The check in at the pub was very easy . The pub closes at 10 pm but as I was going to a concert I was given a key to the Hotel entrance next door to the pub. I was late back but there was no problem and there was a decent selection of biscuits and tea and coffee. The bed was comfortable and the shower nice and big. There is no breakfast and the pub was closed early the next morning when I left but it's not a concern as there are plenty of fast food outlets close by
What could be improved: I didn't have time to have a pint in the pub, maybe next time. I did however, manage to leave my wrist watch behind. I got in touch by email and the they posted it back to me. Thanks Bull

"Where we will be staying when we return to London - no doubt about that!"
Clean, large and comfortable room.
Separate toilet and bathroom which was nice to have.
Comfortable bed, great lighting options in the room. The biscuits, tea and coffee and water in the pantry were a great addition.
What could be improved: It would have been nice if breakfast was an option though given the location there were lots of nearby choices so not an issue.

"Great location, immaculate room, good value for money"
Superbly located, just across the road from Liverpool Street, but generally quiet because it is in a pedestrian zone. Near to various sites, including the Barbican Centre. Helpful staff, immaculate, comfortable room, with a guest 'pantry' for making tea, coffee, some biscuits etc. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space (if staying longer), good lighting and a bright, modern bathroom. I'd forgotten to specify mobility limitations, but the second floor was fine, as the stairs were not too steep and we actually noticed the quality of carpeting which helped! Just for clarification due to confusion online - they no longer serve food, but there are plenty of places nearby. Our room was overlooked by offices, so be aware that the windows may be partially obscured - although that didn't bother us. The pub consists of one nice looking bar, though we didn't get to try it, as they close at 8 p.m. on a Sunday. We would definitely stay here again as base for a City area visit.

"Great location but very noisy"
The location is great, and is close to Liverpool station and bus options. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very clean.
What could be improved: We should have known that a hotel above a pub would be noisy but our room “Petticoat” faced the alley and was very very noisy late into the night. The windows did not seem to keep out any sound and the pub noise then noise of people out carousing then garbage collector noise was loud. Also the front door lock to the alley was broken for three of the four nights we stayed. Our room did lock but anyone could have walked into the hotel halls from the alley.

Close to Liverpool Street station and London Bridge 15 minute walk away had it’s own stocked kitchen to help yourself
What could be improved: Nothing really
