Overview
First Impressions
The Borough sits right on Borough High Street in London‘s Southwark, and honestly, the location tells you everything about what kind of place this is. It’s a three-star hotel that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — instead, it focuses on being genuinely useful for travelers who want to be in the thick of things without paying Mayfair prices. The building has that solid, unpretentious look that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s mix of historic pubs and modern coffee shops.
The Neighborhood Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? Borough Market is literally around the corner, which means you can grab proper coffee and pastries before the tourist crowds arrive. I mean, most visitors don’t realize the market opens early for locals — you get the best stuff and actually talk to the vendors without fighting through Instagram photographers. Plus, you’re walking distance to London Bridge station, so getting anywhere in the city is straightforward, and the South Bank’s right there when you want to stroll along the Thames.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, with everything you actually need. Each room has decent-sized windows (important in London, trust me), and while the decor isn’t going to win design awards, it’s comfortable enough that you’ll sleep well after a day of walking around the city. The beds are properly firm, and honestly, the shower pressure is better than some pricier places I’ve stayed in central London.
Practical Details That Matter
The staff actually knows the area, which makes a difference when you’re asking about where to eat or how to avoid tourist traps. There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves decent pub-style food — nothing fancy, but it hits the spot when you can’t be bothered to go out hunting for dinner. They also sort out basic things like extra towels or directions without making you feel like you’re bothering them, which is more valuable than you might think.
Why Guests Love It
Look, The Borough works because it understands its role perfectly. You’re not paying for marble bathrooms or concierge services — you’re paying for a clean, comfortable base in one of London’s most interesting neighborhoods. The 7.2 rating reflects exactly that: it’s reliably good without any major surprises. For travelers who’d rather spend their money on experiences than hotel amenities, and who appreciate being somewhere with actual local character rather than generic tourist zones, this place delivers what it promises.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in London before spring brings blossom-lined parks, pop-up exhibitions, and warm evening strolls.

"Excellent stay, great value for money and lovely, clean room!"
The room was lovely and clean, exactly what was needed for a one night stay in London.
What could be improved: Nothing, the room served its purpose and was a great place for a base and one night stay. The other reviews about cleanliness and narrow stairs are nit picky in my opinion. I paid £131 for one night in London, great value for money!!

"Straightforward, comfortable, and safe"
Very convenient location and despite my worries, the self check-in online worked smoothly. Comfortable bed and the bathroom was clean and well supplied. Felt safe and secure

"Good value, extremely stuffy during the summertime"
The property was in a good location, and the staff were extremely helpful. We were there in August so most rooms were not occupied and therefore didn’t encourage any issues with a shared bathroom.
What could be improved: This is More generalizable to staying in London during the summer but if you are accustomed to, it is pretty brutal to have just a small singular fan, though the fan they provide is good, a second fan would be the preferable outcome

"Overnight stay. Left feeling rested. Top location in Borough."
Was initially confused how to enter the property, but there was a member of staff at the reception in the cafe (?) next door. Super helpful. Nice bed, clean and equipped ensuite (get that, if you can). Bit smallish but I've stayed in even smaller places outside London for the same price. Also had a floor pillar fan, appreciated on a day when the temperature neared 30C.
What could be improved: Every hotel room should have this: Either a dedicated space to put your luggage case down, or one of those fold-out stands for it. It's not a big investment. And, it being and old London building, the staircases are a bit difficult to navigate with luggage.

"Good location and hotel for weekend visit"
Good location, clean rooms and comfy bed. Modern bathroom and walk in shower.
What could be improved: Only half a toilet roll in the room and no on-site staff so had to source more out of pocket. Walls a little thin so can hear people in rooms next door, although thankfully noise was minimal when we stayed.

"Very good"
Close to the tube, good shower etc. Bed was comfy and secure, easy check-in, nice clean towels.
Location and price were fantastic!
What could be improved: Lock to the apartment door stuck a lot. We constantly had trouble getting in both with the code or phone. Took several attempts every time - might need to check the door handle.
Fan in the bathroom on constantly and what sounded like a generator outside the window - but these were low level noises and fine with ear plugs.
