The Avonmore Olympia
First Impressions
The Avonmore Olympia sits quietly on a tree-lined residential street in Hammersmith, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. This four-star Georgian townhouse hotel has that understated London charm — no flashy signage or doormen, just a neat white facade that blends right into the neighborhood. When I first arrived, I actually appreciated how residential it felt, like staying at a well-to-do friend’s place rather than a typical tourist hotel.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in a proper London neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. Avonmore Road is lined with Victorian terraces where actual Londoners live, and there’s a Tesco Express just around the corner for those late-night snack runs. The Olympia exhibition center is literally a five-minute walk away, which is brilliant if you’re here for an event. West Kensington tube station is about seven minutes on foot, and from there you can get to central London in maybe 15-20 minutes.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully arranged — this is London, after all, where space is at a premium. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I mean that as someone who’s usually fussy about hotel mattresses. What struck me was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re still technically in Zone 2. The decor is sort of contemporary-meets-traditional, nothing groundbreaking but perfectly pleasant. The ensuite bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure in the shower.
Practical Matters
The breakfast situation is pretty straightforward — there’s a small restaurant area where they serve a continental spread. It’s not going to blow your mind, but the coffee’s decent and there’s enough variety to get you going. The staff are genuinely helpful without being overly formal, which I appreciate. There’s no parking on-site, but honestly, you don’t need a car here anyway — public transport connections are solid and everything’s walkable.
Why Guests Love It
Look, The Avonmore Olympia isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in London, and that’s exactly why it works. You get a proper London neighborhood experience without paying Kensington prices, and the transport links mean you’re never really far from anywhere you want to be. If you’re visiting Olympia for work or events, the location can’t be beaten. For everyone else, it’s a solid base that feels authentically London rather than generically international — and sometimes that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
