Overview
First Impressions
The Αnchor – Κing’s Cross ZONE 1! sits on a quiet residential street in Camden, and honestly, the name tells you everything you need to know about its positioning strategy. This four-star property knows it’s all about that Zone 1 location, and they’re not shy about advertising it. The building itself is a converted Victorian terrace — nothing flashy from the outside, but that’s actually part of its charm in this rapidly gentrifying corner of London.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally a five-minute walk from King’s Cross St. Pancras, which means the Eurostar, six tube lines, and those gorgeous new developments around Coal Drops Yard are all at your doorstep. Chalton Street itself is still properly residential — you’ll see locals walking their dogs and heading to the corner shop, not just tourists dragging suitcases. The contrast between the bustling transport hub and this quieter pocket is pretty perfect, actually.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed, with that sort of efficient use of space you expect in central London. What impressed me was the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains (essential when you’re dealing with those bright summer evenings), decent water pressure in the shower, and USB charging ports exactly where you need them. The kitchenette setup is basic but functional, with a mini-fridge and coffee-making facilities that actually work properly.
Practical Considerations
Staff here seem to genuinely know the area well, which makes a difference when you need restaurant recommendations or transport advice. Parking isn’t really an option in this part of Camden, but honestly, with King’s Cross right there, you won’t need a car anyway. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward — no unnecessary upselling or lengthy explanations of obvious amenities.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re paying for the location and the solid basics, not elaborate facilities or over-the-top service. The 8.2 rating makes sense — it’s the kind of hotel where everything functions as it should, the beds are comfortable, and you can walk to dozens of excellent pubs and restaurants within ten minutes. For anyone who wants to actually experience London rather than hide away in their hotel, The Αnchor delivers exactly what you need without the unnecessary frills.

"Great location and space. Would use again"
10mins walk from Euston Station. Lock box for key entry. Great space for our group, set over 4 floors. Kitchen and bathroom ground floor, lounge and patio first floor, 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom on 3rd and 4th floors. Plenty of fans provided (came in handy as it was a hot weekend) Would definitely recommend.

"Great Location and good size and price for large groups."
The location was brilliant: so near stations and tube; short walk to Camden Market. There was a great space for us to hang out in the living area on sofas and to eat around the dining table. The rooms were comfortable and there were fans provided for the warmer weather.
Communication was good and timely.
What could be improved: The bathrooms were a little tired with two tap system and shower heads that fell off (one onto a guest's head). There could have been bathroom mats which would have been useful (and safer)- though we used the hand towel.

"Very good"
Great location, spacious accommodation, very clean, good communication from host
What could be improved: Certain aspects of the flat looking a bit tired, could do with updating specifically bathrooms & kitchen. Lack of glasses in kitchen

"Good"
Great location between Euston Station and King’s Cross. Quiet street, great Indian restaurant down the road. Very large apartment over 4 levels (not adapted for people with disabilities).
What could be improved: The equipment are a bit rundown, particularly the bathrooms and blinds. But given that you generally don’t stay much in the apartment other than for the night, it doesn’t really matter.

"Family weekend stay; Coldplay 🎹🎶🎼🎵"
Location was good if you wanted to be in the Kings Cross area.
Spacious.
The key access was good and could be used to keep the key safe when going to and from the apartment.
What could be improved: On arrival the front door was stuck and was hard to push open. The hall was full of unopened post, lots and lots! There were lots of leaves littering the hall and it was a disappointing first impression.
The door to the apartment was even harder to open and seemed to have been like this for a while as the key was bent. Once in the apartment it seemed okay. The kitchen and a toilet were on the ground floor. We didn’t use the kitchen with the exception of storage in the fridge and making hot drinks. Coffee and tea were provided.
Leading to the next floor where the dining room/ living room were, you needed to climb two sets of stairs. The living room was comfortable but had a slight odour. Leading up another set of stairs were two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms were okay but one bed was on a base which had no legs. The rooms were basic. The bathroom was not in great shape at all. The toilet didn’t flush properly and took forever to fill. The sink was cracked and the tap was loose. The bath was in very poor condition, lots af chips on the enamel and the shower screen was old and discoloured.
There were another two flights of stairs leading to another two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The whole apartment was worn and tired. Although on the surface the apartment looked clean, it actually needed a deep clean. The towels provided were thin and small. Some of the towels had a smell about them.
The bedding was clean and to be honest we had a good nights sleep.
The shower in the bathroom above the living room seemed to have been leaking prior to our stay because the plug socket area was black and mouldy. We unplugged the lamp and water came out of the socket itself. The following day water was streaming through the ceiling and down the walls in the living room.
There was an outside area which needed to be revamped.
The contact we were in touch with, responded to each text that we sent so the communication was excellent.

"overall, good location and ease of communication with property manager made up for the issues"
Location was good. Easy to communicate with property manager
What could be improved: The Cons:
1) Place is 4 floors with very steep stairs. Ground is kitchen and one bathroom, 2nd floor is living room; 3rd floor is 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom- shower tub high to get into and is 1/2 glass to block shower water- but water kept coming out of shower- shower handle also doesn't stay up very well and kept falling down. No place to hang towels etc in bathroom- I would suggest having hooks or things in bathroom so put things or towel racks; 4th floor has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom- similar issues as other bathroom- no place to put items and would recommend hooks or towel racks; and
2) Place advertised as having Air Conditioning- it does NOT have air conditioning. It wasn't a huge issue for us as it was lucky for Owners that there was no heatwave that week. Property accommodated by providing fans and adjusting price.
The Pros:
1) location is very close to kings cross station and euston station;
2) easy to deal with checking in and out, and
3) property manager (Kostantino) easy to communicate with.

"Exceptional"
Everything, it is excellently located, close to transports and to main attractions. Generous space, confortable beds.
What could be improved: It is a very generous appartment, greatly accomodating large groups so more keys available would be great.
