Stylish comfort in London caught me off guard in the best possible way. Tucked away in Finchley, this boutique property doesn’t fit into any neat category — and that’s exactly what makes it work. You know what I mean when I say some places just have that “thing” you can’t quite put your finger on? This is one of those spots.
The Finchley Factor
Here’s the thing about staying in Finchley — most tourists skip right over it, but honestly, that’s their loss. You’re far enough from central London to breathe a bit, yet the Northern Line gets you into the city center in about 30 minutes. The neighborhood feels properly residential, with actual Londoners going about their daily business. I grabbed coffee from a local café just around the corner that clearly hadn’t changed its décor since the ’90s — and the coffee was brilliant.
What Makes It Special
The room I stayed in had this sort of curated-but-not-trying-too-hard vibe that’s surprisingly difficult to pull off. Think mid-century furniture mixed with contemporary touches, but nothing that screams “look how design-forward we are.” The bed was actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many boutique places get this wrong), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that works properly — not the wimpy trickle you sometimes get.
The Real Experience
What struck me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the person at reception didn’t just hand me a generic list — they actually asked what I was in the mood for and suggested this Turkish place that locals clearly frequent. The restaurant scene around here isn’t flashy, but it’s authentic in a way that’s becoming harder to find in central London.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea — if you need to be in the thick of things every single night, you might feel a bit disconnected. But if you appreciate a place with character that doesn’t cost a fortune, and you don’t mind a short tube ride to get to the tourist bits, it’s actually quite clever. The value here is solid, especially considering London’s hotel prices these days. I slept well, felt like I was staying somewhere with personality, and saved enough money to actually enjoy the city instead of just surviving it.

Very clean. Comfortable bed. Great showers and well equipped kitchen.
What could be improved: Access down a long corridor and windows high in bedrooms so felt a bit claustrophobic. Had to pay for parking as permit parking on streets. No fire exit plan- if you couldn’t get down the corridor I don’t know what you’d do.

"Nice stay in Finchley"
Clean, tidy, modern rooms conveniently located across the road from Finchley Nth bus depot. Many restaurants, shops, pubs nearby. Have stayed here before & would stay again.
What could be improved: Some noise from recycling bins on the side road. Shared kitchen is ok, but no real lounge or dining area.

Lovely room and bathrooms. Well decorated and clean. Well stocked kitchen, with everything we needed.
What could be improved: Fridge was too small.

"Terrible communication with staff"
The accommodation was OK.
What could be improved: The attitude of the staff. I left a pair of headphones in my room when I left and the staff were not helpful looking for them. They said they weren't there but they were. They brushed aside any requests and when I asked to speak to their manager they blocked me. I would not recommend this accommodation because of the staffs attitude.

"Not planning to stay again"
It wasn't noisy.
What could be improved: Firstly, according to the member of staff, there was confusion with the booking as my room was allocated to 2 different people. The other lady, who was on her own, had 2 different rooms allocated to her. She didn't like room D as she is claustrophobic, so she chose room B. I was only given room B, but when I arrived there, no one knew what to do. The lady also seemed to know the gentleman and the manager as she referred to her by her first name. Honestly, if I was claustrophobic and knew them and the place I wouldn't choose to stay there as the rooms are very small and some of the windows very little and quite up (which is what she complained about room D). Me and my daughter were tired from travelling and felt sorry for the lady so agreed to stay in room D but this decision shouldn't be left for us to make. We left on Saturday and stayed at a friend's house even though we paid until Sunday. We were never offered any complimentary or anyone checking on us on the following day to see if we were still OK in room D. We paid a "cleaning fee" but when we got into room D, we noticed there were 2 biscuits in the bin and 1 face cloth had been used. The lady did say she had been in that room in the afternoon, so clearly no one cleaned it after her and before us.
Unfortunately, we are not planning to go back.

"Worst stay ever!"
What could be improved: We booked a room with private bathroom and having laundry facilities. However when we got there, we had a shared bathroom and no laundry facilities. We contacted the landlord who informed us that there is in fact no laundry facilities and the bathroom is shared. They also said that they are aware that the accomodation description is incorrect and therefore they will be updating it…after we actually paid and checked in!! This is unacceptable. We asked for some kind of compensation and after almost two weeks they kept saying that they are working on it. In addition, they only gave us 2 towels for 10 nights!! We also asked the reception next door since there was a sign in the building to request assistance just in case required, however the lady was of no assistance and she informed us that she does not manage the B&B.
