Stay Kula London – Tower Hill
First Impressions
Stay Kula London – Tower Hill sits on a quiet street in the City of London, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. The entrance is understated — no grand doorman or flashy signage — but that’s actually part of its charm. This four-star property feels more like a well-kept secret than a typical tourist hotel, which I mean, is exactly what you want when you’re staying in one of London’s busiest areas.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed, with everything you actually need without feeling cramped. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. What struck me most was how quiet it was — you know how London can be with the constant hum of traffic, but somehow this place manages to block most of that out.
The little touches matter here too. There’s proper tea-making facilities, not just those terrible instant packets, and the WiFi actually reaches every corner of the room. The windows are large enough to let in decent natural light, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dealing with London’s unpredictable weather.
Location Insights
Here’s what the guidebooks won’t tell you — being on India Street puts you within a five-minute walk of Tower Hill tube station, but more importantly, you can actually walk to the Tower of London before the crowds arrive. I did this on my second morning and had the place almost to myself around 9 AM. The area gets busy during weekday office hours since you’re right in the financial district, but evenings and weekends it’s surprisingly peaceful.
There’s a decent Tesco Express around the corner for essentials, and if you walk toward Fenchurch Street, you’ll find some proper pubs that aren’t tourist traps. The George on Great Tower Street does excellent fish and chips, and locals actually drink there.
Practical Considerations
The front desk staff know their stuff — they gave me walking directions that actually made sense and warned me about planned tube closures before I found out the hard way. Check-in was straightforward, no unnecessary upselling or lengthy presentations about facilities I probably wouldn’t use anyway.
One thing to note: there’s no on-site restaurant, but given the neighborhood options, you’re not missing out. Borough Market is a short walk across London Bridge if you want proper food shopping, and the City has everything from quick lunch spots to places worth dressing up for.
Why Guests Appreciate It
What works about Stay Kula is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid base for exploring London without the premium you’d pay for staying in Covent Garden or South Kensington. The 7.8 rating makes sense — it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what matters most: clean rooms, good location, and staff who actually help rather than just go through the motions.
If you’re the type who spends most of your time out exploring rather than lounging in hotel amenities, this place gets the balance right. You’ll sleep well, start your day without hassle, and have money left over for the things that actually make a London trip memorable.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
