Spacious ensuite room in front of station
First Impressions
The Spacious ensuite room in front of station caught me off guard — honestly, I was expecting something pretty basic given the straightforward name, but this unique boutique hotel without official star rating delivers way more character than you’d think. Walking up Ilford Hill, you can’t miss the Victorian building that houses this gem, and the fact that it’s literally steps from the station means you hear the occasional rumble of trains, but it’s not as disruptive as you might worry about.
Location & Transport
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? Ilford station is right there — I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and catch the Elizabeth Line into central London in about 20 minutes. The hill itself has this nice mix of local shops and cafes that aren’t touristy at all, which I actually prefer when I want to grab a proper breakfast or just wander around. There’s a decent restaurant called Mirchi just down the road that does fantastic curry if you’re staying in for the evening.
The Room Experience
The room itself lives up to that “spacious” promise — I’ve stayed in London hotels where you can barely open your suitcase, but here you actually have space to move around and spread out your things. The ensuite bathroom is modern and clean, with good water pressure (always a win in my book), and the bed is comfortable enough that I slept through most of the early morning train activity. The windows are decent quality, so noise really isn’t the issue I thought it would be.
Practical Details
What impressed me most was the attention to small details — there’s proper heating that you can actually control, decent WiFi throughout, and enough plugs near the bed for all your devices. The owners have clearly thought about what travelers actually need rather than just throwing in random amenities. Parking can be a bit tricky on Ilford Hill itself, but there are side streets nearby where you can usually find a spot if you’re driving.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t trying to be fancy or trendy — it’s just a well-run place that does the basics really well while giving you proper space and a genuine local London experience. The value is excellent for what you get, especially considering how quick and easy it is to get anywhere in London from here. I’d definitely stay again, particularly for longer trips when having that extra room space really makes a difference.
