Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to South West London semi-detached House on London Road, you might wonder if you’ve got the right address. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating looks exactly like what it is — a converted semi-detached house that someone’s turned into guest accommodation. It’s not trying to be fancy, and honestly, that’s sort of refreshing after all those cookie-cutter hotel chains.
The Neighborhood Reality
Let me be straight with you about Mitcham — it’s not central London, and it doesn’t pretend to be. You’re looking at a solid 30-40 minute journey into the city center, but here’s what I actually found useful: the Mitcham Junction station is walkable, and there’s a decent Tesco nearby for grabbing essentials. The area feels properly residential, which means it’s quiet at night but also means you won’t find much nightlife within stumbling distance.
What You’re Actually Getting
Each room feels like you’re staying in someone’s spare bedroom — because essentially, you are. The décor is basic but clean, with that slightly mismatched furniture vibe you get in family homes. What surprised me was how spacious everything felt compared to cramped London hotel rooms that cost twice as much. The bed was comfortable enough, and the heating actually worked properly (always a win in English houses).
Practical Considerations
There’s no fancy reception desk or concierge service here — you’ll likely get your keys from whoever’s running the place that day. Don’t expect room service or daily housekeeping; this operates more like extended-stay accommodation. The shared facilities are kept reasonably tidy, though you might find yourself sharing a bathroom depending on which room you book. Parking is usually available on the street, which is actually pretty generous for London.
Why Guests Choose It
Look, this place scores a 7.6 for a reason — it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. You’re paying London-adjacent prices for a bed, shower, and somewhere to store your luggage while you explore the city. The value proposition works if you’re spending most of your time out and about rather than lounging around your accommodation. It’s particularly popular with people visiting friends or family in South London, or travelers who need something affordable but don’t want to venture into hostel territory.

"Conveniently located for visiting Wimbledon and other places of interest."
Own door access, and parking in the driveway

"Nice stay, shame fans didn't work."
The size of house, decor and the fact that you can park your car on driveway.
What could be improved: The cutlery/plates were dirty - had dried on food. There was a bottle of empty Jack Daniels on top of the cupboard. Also a shame that the fans didn't work in this heat.

"Very nice place, good price, excellent communication thank you."
I liked the modern looking kitchen, diner and lounge.
What could be improved: Nothing bad to say, parking was a little tricky at the front but got there in the end. BUT unlike many properties this does have off street parking so was all good.

"It's a good try, but no cigar"
It was easy to find and easy to obtain the key.
What could be improved: It was made to look clean when it really wasn't, flithy in places, the drains all seemed to be blocked, there was infestation of small flies in the bathroom. The doors and windows didn't feel secure, we where always worried when we went out, and there was no security. The doors were paper thin, and there was no alarm.

"Tegenvaller"
Dichtbij openbaar vervoer met goede aansluiting naar Londen toe.
What could be improved: Locatie aan drukke weg met veel verkeer.
