Overview
First Impressions
The South Kensington Studio sits inside Chelsea Cloisters on Sloane Avenue — you know, that distinctive red-brick building that’s impossible to miss. It’s one of those places that feels more like stepping into someone’s well-appointed London flat than checking into a typical hotel. The building itself has this sort of 1930s charm that immediately tells you you’re staying somewhere with character, not some cookie-cutter chain property.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is what really sold me on this place. You’re right in the heart of London‘s museum district — the Natural History Museum is literally a five-minute walk away. I mean, you can pop over to the V&A for an afternoon, then stroll through Hyde Park, and still be back for a quick rest before dinner. The Tube station is close enough that you’re not dragging luggage through endless streets, but far enough that you don’t hear the rumble all night.
The Studio Space
The room itself is compact but thoughtfully laid out — this is London, after all, so every square foot counts. What impressed me was the little kitchenette tucked into one corner; it’s basic but functional if you want to grab groceries from the Waitrose down the street and have breakfast in. The three-star rating feels about right — it’s clean, comfortable, and has everything you need without any unnecessary frills.
Practical Perks
The building has a restaurant downstairs, which is handy when you can’t be bothered to venture out after a long day of sightseeing. There’s also a small communal garden area that most guests seem to overlook — I discovered it by accident and ended up spending a quiet morning there with coffee. The WiFi actually works (always a gamble in older London buildings), and the heating responds quickly, which you’ll appreciate during those damp English winters.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is that it gives you a genuine slice of London life without the tourist trap feeling. You’re staying where locals actually live, shopping at the same places they do, walking the same tree-lined streets. The 7.8 rating reflects exactly what you get — solid, unpretentious accommodation in one of London’s most desirable neighborhoods. It’s not trying to be fancy, just comfortable and authentic, which is exactly what you want when you’re exploring a city like this.
London’s hotels wrap guests in heritage townhouses, theatre-district energy, and concierge-curated Thames cruises.

"Location, location, location"
The property was central and in a safe and convenient part of London. We walked everywhere and the fact that there was a Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer food so close to go to was handy and convenient.
What could be improved: The checkin process was a huge problem. We didn’t hear anything for the property until three hours before we were allowed to enter. We arrived at 10am at Chelsea Cloisters and went to the main reception who told us that they had no link to the booking as it was a private booking. They would not look after our luggage. We rang the owner who said we could possibly asked the cleaner if we could leave the luggage in the room while she cleaned at midday, so my elderly mum and I. (Keep in mind, we had been travelling on a plane for 27 hours by now from Australia) When I went up to ask, the cleaning woman opened the door just a fraction, I tried to explain what I wanted to happen, the cleaning lady was irate and kept saying ‘no English, no English’ , ‘Me clean’. She then slammed the door shut on me. Mum and I had no choice but to sit in the foyer severely jet lagged and wait until 3 pm for checkin. We didn’t hear from the property until at least 2 pm, way of email. I was luck that I had internet roaming. But in retrospect, I wonder what would happen to anyone who would have been waiting or relying on internet service in the hotel.

"A great place to stay surrounded by great places to visit."
I chose the property as it was easy walking distance to the hospital where my husband was receiving treatment. I liked that the accommodation was clean and comfortable. It was small but provided everything we needed. There was a small kitchen containing oven, hob, kettle, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, fridge freezer and washing machine. Brilliant! Entry details were sent prior to the visit so there was no hassle about check in and check out. Communication between us and the owners/managing agent was excellent. We need to visit the area on a regular basis and hope to be able to book again.

"Awesome location, would recommend for solo travelers or couples"
Great location, the apartment was clean and had everything I needed. Excellent communication getting into the place.
What could be improved: It was a hot week in London when I stayed and place does not have aircon, only a single fan.

"Great location and cosy room. I definitely stay there again."
The room is small but it has everything you need. We had a comfortable stay there. The location is great. The kitchen facilities are enough to do whatever you want. The owner answered all of our questions quickly and tried to sort the problems out. We felt safe and comfortable there.
What could be improved: There was only one lift which is working. We mostly walk thru the steps because we need to wait for a long long time. It was difficult when we carry something.

"Overall, the location is convenient and the hosts were responsive and kind. The studio itself could use some simple touc"
I was visiting a friend who is in Royal Brompton hospital. The location for that was perfect. It is a very easy walk to the hospital and to South Kensington station.
The studio had what I needed, and I appreciate that the kitchen had olive oil, salt and pepper, etc. I love that the property had wine glasses, coffee mugs, etc.
Finally, the hosts were incredibly responsive. They allowed early check in which I SO appreciated after flying over night from the states. They checked to be sure I was able to get in ok and that everything worked well. When I had trouble with the keypad or questions, they responded quickly.
What could be improved: The building itself is quite dated, but that is no fault of the owners of this studio.
I do feel the studio itself could be made to be a little more comfortable and welcoming. The walls are all just white with almost no decoration or pictures at all.
There is one table with metal folding chairs. I would like to see actual chairs at the table, and it really needs another table or stand of some sort. There is no space to put any toiletries in the bathroom. I also feel a night stand and lamp should be on both sides of the bed.
The keypad to get into the apartment is finicky. It always ended up working, but it was never quick. There are times I would have to try for 2-3 minutes for it to register my hand.

Location is superb, 10 minutes from South Ken station, portered building.
What could be improved: The apartment is in need of renovation, several signs of wear and tear, cleaning equipement stored in the closet.

"Nice, comfy flat with easy commute to sightseeings"
Most of all - location, it’s very close to the main sightseeing, I literally used to go to Buckingham palace within 30 minutes. It’s warm and cozy flat. Kitchen contains everything I needed. For the one traveler I believe it’s really perfect.

"Good"
The location is nice. The staff is helpful and can response in seconds.
What could be improved: We were suggested to store our luggeges outside of the accommadation before check in time, it is a bit unconvinient but fair. The lift of the accommadation is too busy, also one of it out of order. The water pressure in the kitchen is not hogh enough so it is a bit tricky to wash dishes.
