Second Nest Islington Town House
First Impressions
When I first walked up to Second Nest Islington Town House, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name — but the Georgian facade immediately caught my attention. This four-star boutique property sits quietly on a residential street in London‘s Islington, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it. The entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s stylish home than a typical hotel, which I suppose is exactly the point.
The Neighborhood Feel
What I love about staying here is how quickly you realize you’re in one of London’s most genuinely local neighborhoods. Angel station is literally a five-minute walk, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of independent cafes and pubs that Islington locals actually frequent. The Regent’s Canal is just around the corner — I mean, you can walk along the towpath straight into Camden or King’s Cross without dealing with the tube. Chapel Market happens twice a week right down the road, and it’s the real deal, not some tourist trap.
The Space Itself
Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Mine had these lovely period features — high ceilings, original moldings — but with modern touches that actually work. The bed was properly comfortable (always a gamble with boutique places), and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy toiletries. There’s no restaurant on-site, but they’ve got a little honesty bar setup that works perfectly for an evening drink.
Getting Around
Here’s what’s genuinely useful: you’re positioned between three tube lines, so getting anywhere in central London is straightforward. But what I appreciated more was being able to walk to places like Sadler’s Wells or the Design Museum without the hassle of public transport. The staff actually know the area well — they pointed me toward a brilliant Turkish place on Essex Road that I never would have found otherwise. Parking isn’t available on-site, but that’s pretty standard for this part of London anyway.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not. You’re staying in a proper London neighborhood, in a building that feels authentic, with service that’s helpful without being overly formal. The 7.9 rating makes sense — it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what it promises. For the price point, you’re getting character and location over flashy amenities, which is exactly what some travelers want. If you prefer having a concierge and room service, look elsewhere, but if you want to experience London like someone who actually lives here, this fits the bill perfectly.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
