Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Rose And Crown Hotel feels like stepping into a proper British pub that decided to grow up and offer beds upstairs. The building sits right on High Street in Wimbledon — and I mean, you can’t miss it with that classic Victorian facade. It’s got this wonderfully worn-in feeling that makes you think it’s been welcoming travelers for decades, which honestly makes sense given the three-star charm mixed with genuinely thoughtful touches throughout.
The Wimbledon Connection
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re actually in Wimbledon village proper, not some random spot that just happens to share the postal code. The tennis grounds are a pleasant fifteen-minute walk away, but even if you’re not here for the championships, there’s something special about wandering the same streets. The local shops and cafes feel authentically neighborhood-y — not touristy at all — and the staff genuinely knows the area well enough to point you toward the good stuff.
The Room Experience
My room was smaller than what you’d get at a modern chain, but it felt thoughtfully designed rather than cramped. The bed was properly comfortable (sometimes you worry with older buildings), and the bathroom had been updated without losing the building’s character. There’s complimentary Wi-Fi that actually works, and the windows open — which might sound basic, but you’d be surprised how many hotels have forgotten about fresh air.
Food and Atmosphere
The ground floor restaurant operates as both the hotel dining area and a proper local pub, which creates this interesting dynamic where you’re eating alongside actual Wimbledon residents. The food is solid British fare — nothing revolutionary, but well-executed and reasonably priced. I actually enjoyed sitting at the bar with a pint, watching the evening crowd filter in after work. It felt like getting a genuine slice of local life rather than the usual hotel bubble experience.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing — this isn’t trying to be something it’s not. The Rose And Crown knows it’s a neighborhood hotel with character, and it leans into that identity completely. The service feels personal rather than scripted, and you get the sense that repeat guests are genuinely welcomed back rather than just processed. For the price point and that outstanding 9 rating, you’re getting authentic London hospitality in a spot that most visitors never discover. It’s the kind of place you’d actually want to return to, not just stay at once.

"Great hotel, really enjoyed stay. Definitely recommend."
We really enjoyed this hotel. It's location was great in Wimbledon village, steps from the lovely commons. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast and dinner there were quite good. The gal who greeted us was very nice, friendly and welcoming. Loved it's history in the area and will definitely stay again as we will be returning to Wimbledon.
What could be improved: Next time we will ask for a room off the main street. Otherwise the room was very quiet.

"Overall, a really lovely room and enjoyable stay."
Lovely quiet and clean room, very comfortable mattress. Great location and friendly staff and would definitely stay again.
What could be improved: Minor niggles - Bizarre tap in the bathroom- couldn’t work out how to change the water pressure.
The room needs a brighter light.
The toilet itself is very small and very low - very difficult to use if you have a dodgy hip.
The shower head is fixed and could be moveable.
Please provide milk sachets rather than a cute bottle or a mini fridge as the milk goes off.
