Richmond Hill Hotel
First Impressions
The Richmond Hill Hotel sits perfectly perched on one of London’s most charming hills, and honestly, the moment you walk up to it, you understand why this spot has been drawing visitors for decades. This four-star Georgian beauty feels like it’s been here forever — in the best possible way. The building itself has that classic Richmond elegance, but without any stuffiness that sometimes comes with historic properties.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally at the top of Richmond Hill here, which means the views over the Thames Valley are pretty spectacular. What I love about this location is that you’re close enough to central London (about 30 minutes by tube) but you feel like you’re in a proper English town. Richmond Park is just a short walk away — and I mean, where else can you spot deer while staying so close to the city? The high street with its shops and cafés is right down the hill, but the hotel feels pleasantly removed from any hustle.
The Room Experience
The rooms here strike that perfect balance between traditional and comfortable. My room had those tall Georgian windows that flood everything with natural light, and the décor manages to feel classic without being dated. The beds are actually really good — firm but comfortable — and the bathrooms are well-appointed without trying too hard to be trendy. Some rooms have those killer views I mentioned, so it’s worth asking when you book.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel restaurant focuses on British cuisine with a modern twist, and they do it well without being pretentious about it. Breakfast is solid — proper English breakfast if you want it, but also lighter options that don’t leave you feeling heavy for the rest of the day. There’s also a cozy bar area that feels like the kind of place locals might actually drop by for a drink. The staff throughout the hotel are genuinely helpful — they know Richmond well and give good recommendations.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Richmond Hill Hotel is how it gives you that quintessential English experience without feeling like a tourist trap. You’re staying somewhere with real character and history, but the service feels contemporary and the facilities work properly. The combination of being able to walk in Richmond Park in the morning and be in central London for dinner makes it appealing to different types of travelers. It’s the kind of place that feels like a discovery, even though it’s been welcoming guests for years.
