Raffles London at The OWO
First Impressions
Walking into Raffles London at The OWO honestly feels like stepping into a piece of history that’s been polished to perfection. This five-star property occupies the Old War Office building β you know, where Churchill once made decisions that changed the world. The lobby’s soaring ceilings and marble columns remind you instantly that this isn’t just another luxury hotel; it’s a monument that happens to have incredibly comfortable beds.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re right in the heart of Westminster, which means Downing Street is literally around the corner and Big Ben’s chimes will probably wake you up (in the most charming way possible). What I love about this spot is how you can walk to the Thames in three minutes, pop over to St. James’s Park for a morning stroll, or head to Covent Garden without needing the Tube. London doesn’t get more central than Whitehall β though be prepared for the occasional tourist crowd taking photos of the building itself.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in was massive by London standards, with these gorgeous period details mixed with seriously modern luxury touches. The marble bathroom alone was bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve been in, and the rainfall shower actually has proper water pressure β something you can’t take for granted in older London buildings. What really got me was finding out my particular room was once part of Churchill’s private quarters. I mean, how do you even process that while you’re brushing your teeth?
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant scene here is honestly impressive β Mauro Colagreco’s concept brings this refined yet approachable energy that works whether you’re celebrating something special or just need a really good meal after a day of sightseeing. The service feels effortless but never stuffy, which can be tricky to pull off in such a grand setting. There’s also this gorgeous spa tucked away in the basement that feels like a secret hideaway, perfect for recovering from all that walking around Westminster.
Why Guests Love It
Look, you’re paying premium prices here, but you’re getting something genuinely unique in return. This isn’t just about thread counts or champagne service (though both are excellent) β it’s about sleeping in a building where actual history happened, while enjoying every modern luxury you could want. The staff seems to understand they’re custodians of something special, and that reverence shows in how they take care of guests. Plus, when someone asks where you stayed in London, saying “the Old War Office” just has this perfect ring to it.
