First Impressions
Prime Backpackers Angel caught me off guard, honestly. Walking up to this place on City Road, I was expecting your typical hostel setup — you know, cramped bunks and shared everything. Instead, what I found was this unique boutique hotel without official star rating that’s managed to carve out its own niche in London’s competitive accommodation scene. The building itself has character, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole operation.
Location & Neighborhood
Islington turned out to be a brilliant base for exploring London. You’re close enough to central areas without paying central London prices, which honestly makes a huge difference when you’re budgeting for a trip. The Angel tube station is practically on your doorstep, and I found myself zipping around the city pretty easily. What I really appreciated was the neighborhood vibe — there are proper local pubs nearby, not just tourist traps, and some decent coffee shops for morning fuel.
The Room & Amenities
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed. It’s clear they’ve put effort into maximizing the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep, and there was adequate storage for my stuff — something you can’t always count on with budget-friendly places. The shared facilities were clean and well-maintained, though you’ll want to bring flip-flops for the shower area, as you would anywhere.
Value & Service
For what you’re paying, Prime Backpackers Angel delivers solid value. The staff actually seem to know the area well and can point you toward things that aren’t just the obvious tourist attractions. I mean, they’re not going to hold your hand through everything, but they’re helpful when you need directions or recommendations. The whole place runs smoothly without being overly formal — there’s a relaxed atmosphere that works well for travelers who want something between a hostel and a traditional hotel.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re getting honest accommodation in a good location with people who actually care about running the place properly. The 7.9 rating makes sense when you experience it firsthand — it’s not perfect, but it gets the important things right. If you’re looking for something different from the usual London hotel experience and want to stay somewhere with a bit of personality, this could be exactly what you need.

I had a great stay at the hostel! The atmosphere is very welcoming, and the social activities really make a difference.
The location is also very good and convenient.
All the team were super friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Giovana Formigari and João Monteiro! They were super nice, gave me great tips on places to visit and things to do, and honestly made my stay much more fun and comfortable.

"Got to rest as people in my room were respectful"
The top bunk… in female room… could not see luggage on the floor or people moving around…the tv room has improved too
What could be improved: The bathroom near Victoria room was far too cold… had to use hair dryer on my body n clothes after showering… inconsiderate people in tv room…

"Great stay and convenient to get to the airport"
I've stayed here on several occasions over the years which is a testament to how much I love staying here.
What could be improved: On this occasion there were guests who were up very early (5am) and they could be heard chatting in the reception area which was below my room - and I had earplugs in.

"Lovely people, good stay"
Big nice kitchen, book shelf, very nice and helpfull staff (special thanks to Bruno), good location, quiet night, nice travellers also. Something seemed to help people socialize, which is always nice.
What could be improved: The beeper locks were a bit annoying in the doors and mattresses could be more comfortable, but there’s a new owner and plenty of renovation going on, I would recommend checking out what the place will become.

"Good place to stay"
The hostel is located in a lovely neighbourhood, the staff is super nice and helpful. It is very easy to move around from there as there are a lot of public transport options available nearby. The shared spaces were very clean and tidy (when there were no works being done). They offer complementary tea and coffee around the clock and some meals depending on the day of the week.
What could be improved: The room was small, but cozy. The main problem for us was that we made the booking almost a year in advance, but when we arrived there were some renovations ongoing and no one told us (not in advance, nor at the moment of the check-in). There were some spaces that couldn’t be used at the time as they were replacing the floors and repainting, so that made our stay a bit chaotic and somehow uncomfortable, e.g, it smelled like paint and on the last day (Sunday), one of us wasn’t feeling well so she came back to the hostel in the afternoon to rest but she couldn’t because of the noises

"Good hostel in the heart of London"
This hostel had the one of the biggest and best equipped kitchens I’ve seen so far in hostels - there were 4 stovetops, 4 sinks, enough space, and even though it was in the basement, it was bright and airy. The staff were very helpful, and the location was great. Everything was clean.
What could be improved: The room was very crammed, and it had triple bunks. Our room was on the ground floor, overlooking a very busy street, so it was quite noisy because we had to have our window open at all times due to the heat.
