Overview

First Impressions

When I first stumbled upon NAVAL COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF ROYAL GREENWICH, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name. But walking up to this charming place on Caradoc Street, it immediately felt like discovering a hidden gem that most tourists never find. The cottage has this authentic maritime character that makes perfect sense once you realize you’re literally in the heart of Britain’s naval heritage.

Location & Maritime Heritage

You’re staying in Greenwich — and I mean proper Greenwich, not some outskirt that claims the name. The National Maritime Museum is practically around the corner, and the Cutty Sark is close enough that you’ll probably walk past it multiple times without even planning to. What I love about this spot is how it puts you right in the thick of Royal Greenwich’s UNESCO World Heritage area, but on a quiet residential street where you actually get some peace.

The Cottage Experience

This four-star cottage feels more like staying in a friend’s well-appointed London home than a typical hotel. The room I had was thoughtfully designed with naval touches that never felt gimmicky — more like subtle nods to the area’s seafaring history. There’s a proper kitchen setup that actually works for making breakfast or a quick dinner, which honestly saved me quite a bit of money during my stay.

Getting Around & Practical Bits

The DLR station is about a ten-minute walk, which gets you into central London surprisingly quickly — I timed it at 25 minutes to Bank station. But here’s what I really appreciated: you can walk along the Thames Path right to the O2 Arena, or head the other way toward the Royal Observatory. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there are options nearby if you’re driving.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both historic and comfortable without trying too hard. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you experience how quiet it gets at night despite being so central to everything Greenwich offers. You’re not just getting a bed for the night — you’re getting a genuine taste of what it’s like to live in one of London’s most historically rich neighborhoods, complete with weekend markets and that brilliant view from Greenwich Park.

"Great spot to pitch up at for a concert at the O2"
Great little property in a really handy location - 35 mins walk to the o2 along the Thames Path and 10 into Greenwich town and the station. Everything we needed for a short stay and great communication from the hosts.

"A gem in the heart of Greenwich"
Very clean, comfortable beds, good pressure on shower, location was great - close to everything you could want. Lovely courtyard where we had breakfast outside both mornings (fortunately sunny!) Parking was also easy ( hosts arranged permit at extra cost which was made clear before booking and was very reasonable for the area - £20 per day). We didn't do any cooking but there looked to be everything you would need. It's in a very quiet street too and there was no noise at night even with the windows wide open. I'll happily come back here again

"Very comfortable & location was super convenient"
Great location, 10 mins from Maze Hill train station & Greenwich for the DLR & bus route to The 02 & North Greenwich for London Underground. Self contained with all amenities for a self catering holiday with shops nearby.
What could be improved: Gas top stove with nothing to ignite. And issues with the TV channels.

"Exceptional"
Almost everything.
What could be improved: I think the refrigerator needs to be colder. We were concerned that the milk would go off with the fridge not quite cold enough. The freezer was fine.

"Very good"
Nice quiet area. Spacious living room although quite narrow steps up to the bedroom. Lots of restaurants, shops in a distance recommended to go through the pedestrians'tunnel to Canary Wharf side near Caty Sark. Amazing and empty meadow on the other side with a view to the skyscrapers. For runners lots of choices- Greenwich Park, path alongside the river, or canary wharf reachable through the tunnel
What could be improved: Narrow steps.
