Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Museum St Central Soho Townhouse feels like stumbling onto a movie set — you know, one of those perfectly imperfect Georgian townhouses that somehow survived centuries of London chaos. The building sits right on Museum Street, and honestly, I almost walked past it because it blends so seamlessly with the neighborhood’s historic character. This four-star gem doesn’t scream for attention, which is exactly what makes it special.

Location & Neighborhood

You’re basically in the heart of Bloomsbury here, which means the British Museum is literally around the corner — I’m talking a two-minute walk. But what I really love is how you can duck into Soho’s madness within ten minutes, then retreat back to this quieter pocket when you need to breathe. The surrounding streets are lined with those independent bookshops and cafés that make you feel like a proper Londoner, not just another tourist.

The Space Itself

Each room feels more like staying in someone’s well-curated townhouse than a standard hotel. The interiors strike this perfect balance between period features and modern comfort — original fireplaces alongside sleek bathrooms, that sort of thing. I mean, you’re not getting sprawling suites here, but the space feels thoughtfully designed rather than cramped. The common areas have this lived-in elegance that actually makes you want to linger with a book.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings start with a proper breakfast setup that doesn’t feel rushed or institutional. The restaurant area maintains that townhouse vibe, so you’re not suddenly transported into generic hotel land when you come downstairs. What’s brilliant is how the staff seems to remember details about guests — they’ll chat about your museum plans or recommend that hidden pub three streets over that locals actually use.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not. You’re staying in a beautifully preserved piece of London history, but with reliable wifi and a proper shower — basically the best of both worlds. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you consider how rare it is to find a place that feels both authentic and comfortable in this part of town. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll actually look forward to coming back after a long day of wandering the city.

"A little pricey, but overall a clean, comfortable flat in a very convenient central London location."
No breakfast, but cafe across the street (50 feet!) was excellent and good value. Flat was clean and well maintained. We liked the laundry facilities but would have liked to have had liquid detergent available (we bought our own to use). Beds were comfortable. Used fan as unit was hot when we arrived. Upstairs was comfortable and TV worked well.
What could be improved: Obtaining the keys was somewhat difficult, possibly because we did not have a UK phone. We were able to connect with use of my sister's UK phone. Once we connected the host was very helpful and provided videos both to orient us to the location of the flat (we arrived at night) and the exact placement of the keys inside the lower window.

Everything was perfect. Location, the property, the beds, the TV. Spotlessly clean and a lovely shower!

"Top Location but Facilities a bit wore down"
Top Location. Otherwise facilities a bit wore down. Cold water tap in the bathroom doesn’t work. Fire alarm starts beeping randomly. Due to the simple windows which are not soundproof at all,you can hear every word spoken by people passing by.

"great location, comfortable hideaway - surprisingly quiet"
Good location, walking distance to theatres, restaurants etc. Comfortable and surprisingly quiet . Recommended for two (as per other reviews I don’t think the sofa would be ideal to sleep on if you had four(
What could be improved: Doesn’t have a dishwasher as advertised (no drama however) , windows have an opaque film on them for privacy (bedroom window is directly onto pavement at street level so understandably they’re seeking to create some privacy, and the upstairs window has a slightly less opaque film. ). I’d prefer plantation shutters/blinds so you could angle them up for privacy but be able to see outside if desired

"Perfect location, and a great little house."
Absolutely perfect location. We've stayed in this neighborhood many times, and this is the cutest little house around. It was very clean, and the kitchen was great for both breakfast and dinner. Yes, home-made dinner in front of the huge TV was the better choice at the end of a long, tiring day, instead of the extra stimulation of dinner out.
What could be improved: Only two negatives. First, we couldn't get the shower to get hot. It was above warm, but not what I would describe as hot. (The drain also couldn't handle the shower on full, without beginning to overflow.) Second, the sofabed in the living room may technically be a sofabed, but I wouldn't want to sleep on it. When folded down there are two ridges on it, one along the length and the other running across it. I ended up sharing the downstairs bed with my young son instead of having him sleep upstairs. But neither of these would stop me staying there again.

"Clean and well equipped."
Great apartment a couple of minutes walk to the British Museum and an easy walk to Covent Garden with some food options at your doorstep. Few minutes walk to tube at Holborn. Enjoyed our stay and Russell was very helpful.

"Stylish apartment, great amenities in just the right location."
We really loved the space, it was just so lovely for us to have the freedom the apartment gave us for two adults and 2 children, you simply don’t get that with a hotel room. We loved the location, the proximity to theatres/tube and the museum…yet was quiet enough for us to not feel like we were in the city…(apart from the bin lorries, but that’s a necessary evil)
What could be improved: The only thing that let it down was the sofa bed…it is very stylish but there is space for something more substantial and comfortable…we put the kids in the bed downstairs so that we could chill on the settee with a film but it just wasn’t big enough for us to spend the night in…

"Superb"
Amazing location, have everything for family stay (kitchenware, pillows etc). We really enjoyed.
What could be improved: The apartment lacks fresh air and ventilations - very hot on the 2nd floor in summer days. There is a fan but hardly helps. We’d love to have an AC or ceiling fan at least. All the rest is good.
