First Impressions
Honestly, Modern studio in popular South Kensington location caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know those narrow mews streets in London that feel like stepping into a different century? Well, Queen’s Gate Mews is exactly that — tucked away from the hustle but still right in the heart of everything. The building itself has that classic London charm, though don’t expect a grand lobby or anything fancy since this is a three-star setup.
The Space
The studio room is surprisingly well thought out for what’s essentially a compact living space. I mean, you’re not getting tons of square footage here, but whoever designed this place actually understood how travelers live. The kitchenette isn’t just for show — there’s a proper fridge, microwave, and enough counter space to prepare simple meals without feeling cramped. The bed sits in the main area with decent storage underneath, which you’ll appreciate since closet space is pretty minimal.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a three-minute walk from South Kensington tube station. That means the Natural History Museum, V&A, and Science Museum are all within easy strolling distance. But here’s the insider tip: Cromwell Road can get pretty noisy during the day, so the fact that you’re tucked back on this quiet mews makes all the difference for actually getting some sleep.
Neighborhood Feel
South Kensington has this interesting mix of tourists doing the museum circuit and locals who’ve been living here forever. You’ll find proper grocery stores nearby — there’s a Tesco Express just around the corner and a Whole Foods about ten minutes away if you want to stock that kitchenette. The area feels safe walking around at night, which isn’t something you can say about every part of central London. Plus, you’re close enough to Hyde Park for morning runs or just escaping the city vibe for a bit.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to win any design awards, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The wifi actually works well (tested it on video calls), the shower has decent water pressure, and you’re not paying Knightsbridge prices for the location. I’d say it works best for travelers who want their own space and plan to be out exploring most of the day. The studio setup means you can grab coffee and pastries from the local shops and have a proper breakfast instead of rushing to some overpriced hotel restaurant. It’s practical London living without the fuss — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Location, size of apartment, clean and in good condition. Neighbourhood quiet, and tube station nearby.
What could be improved: Provided Internet not working during my stay. Had to use my mobile phone for access to the internet.

"Right for what we needed."
Convenient & great location. Was a clean good sized place for a couple which looked nice and had the facilities needed for a couple of nights.
What could be improved: Wasn’t aware there wasn’t any proper windows apart from a large “sky light” over the bed which meant we were awake as soon as the sun rose (there were no windows you could open so it was very muggy/hot during our stay).
The property has a back door that leads out into a stairway and other properties which could do with a little blind for privacy.

"Perfect place to stay while we enjoyed London life!"
Fantastic location, walking distance from station, shops, coffee, pub etc. Lovely large studio room in a quiet mews.
What could be improved: There's a sky light in the room which lets some light through in the morning, but otherwise the property was great.

"Great location, good value, just a shame about the lack of ease of communication."
The location is exceptional! Clean and comfortable bed and sitting area. Fully functional kitchenette and great water pressure in the shower.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, we were unable to connect to the wifi and although we tried to get assistance from both the owner (who was travelling and therefore out of reach) and the out of hours contact, there was no response. Subsequent comms with the owner after we vacated the property resulted in a fair refund with which we were satisfied. It would've been helpful to allow fresh air into the apartment through the window blocks but these appeared to be painted shut.

"Good for comfort and location. Concerns about the standard of cleanliness. Some items missing"
Just stayed one night and it met our needs for location and quietness plus general comfort. The kitchen was well stocked - although we ate out and only used the kettle and 2 mugs and had brought our own teabags.
What could be improved: However, I would like to raise issues about the cleanliness of the property, amongst other things. I don't know if there is a problem with the cleaner currently, as previous reviewers didn't mention anything.
The kitchen surface around the toaster was covered in crumbs. The inside of the microwave & turntable were not cleaned
The boxing and other woodwork near/under the TV was dusty and covered in hairs.
The floor wasn't that clean - we didn't bring slippers, so my socks got covered in dust and hairs too from walking about.
The shower room sink pipes and toilet pipe were dirty and the skirting/boxing had a similar problem to the lounge. The toilet brush top was similarly dirty on top.
I had to kill 3 cockroaches - kitchen, area outside the shower room, and in the shower room.
There were no toiletries supplied ( as indicated woud be supplied free on the website) - other than a tiny unobtainable amount left in a carex bottle of handwash. We had to go and buy items.
I hope these issues are temporary and
can be rectified for future guests
Also a couple of other comments:
Wifi was good, but Perhaps let people know to come armed with their passwords for Netflix etc
Providing an iron is good, but I couldn't find an ironing board and didn't want to use a bath towel on the table.
Consider providing a non-slip shower mat and mat for outside the shower for safety.
Confirm on /update the website(s) whether toiletries and any other provisions are included

"Great location. Rubbish amenities. Needs better cleaners. Wouldn’t book again."
The location was excellent. The bed was surprisingly comfortable considering the mattress was thin and the bed pretty squeaky
What could be improved: The WIFI was utter useless. The TV has absolutely no TV channels. I had to use my own hotspot just to be able to connect to Netflix. This took ages to do. The kitchen has no oven or grill. I couldn’t cook breakfast as the property had no frying pans. There was no clothes to wipe the counters down with and no tea towels to dry your hands. If using the microwave you have to pick it up and move it to the other counter top just to be able to plug it it….which is ridiculous. There’s a leak with the bathroom sink. Every time you use the tape you will go back and find a little puddle of water. The shower base fills up with water, you have to keep turning the taps off to allow the water to run out. The cleaners are clearly not going a great job as the toilet base was dirty…I did take pictures. The counter and side of the microwave had crumbs and dust. The host messages to tell you to leave the property by 11am even though when booking it clearly says check out is between 8-12.

What could be improved: Maybe add some drapes for the front and back door. Other than that our stay was fantastic! We loved the location and how clean and well equipped the studio is.

"Good location for the Albert Hall, museums etc."
location was excellent for my trip to The Royal Albert Hall
What could be improved: No internet and as a result I could not get TV to work even after contacting the phone number I had. My point of contact was the neighbour and she could not help.
No hot water in the mornings for a shower.
Smelled of cigarettes/smoking in all areas including the bedding.
Very “tired” decor and the bathroom/shower area had black mould which has been clearly there for a while.
