First Impressions
When I first spotted Modern 2 bedroom flat, SE6 on Brownhill Road, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t look like much from the outside. But that’s kind of the point with this apartment. It’s tucked away in a residential street in Catford, and you’d walk right past it thinking it’s just another converted flat. Which, well, it sort of is — but the owners have done something pretty clever here.
The Space
Step inside and you’ll see what I mean about modern. The whole place has been gutted and redone with clean lines, decent furniture, and actually functional Wi-Fi (miracle in London, honestly). The two bedrooms are properly sized — not those shoebox affairs you usually get in apartment rentals around here. The main bedroom gets good morning light, and the second one works perfectly as either another bedroom or if you need space to spread out and work.
The kitchen surprised me most. It’s not huge, but they’ve fitted it out with everything you’d actually use — proper cooktop, decent-sized fridge, even a dishwasher. I made coffee there every morning and cooked a few meals, and honestly, it felt more functional than some hotel kitchenettes twice the size.
Location Reality Check
Catford isn’t exactly tourist central, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But here’s the thing — you’re genuinely well-connected from here. Catford station is about a 12-minute walk, and from there you can get to London Bridge in under 20 minutes. Plus, you’ve got actual local life happening around you instead of being stuck in some sterile hotel district.
There’s a Sainsbury’s practically next door, which became my lifeline for grabbing supplies. And if you walk toward the high street, you’ll find some decent takeaway spots and a few pubs that locals actually drink in — not the tourist traps you get elsewhere.
The Practical Stuff
What works here is the attention to details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night. Proper shower pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, and enough power outlets where you need them. The heating worked without drama, and the place stays surprisingly quiet despite being on a main-ish road.
The owners clearly live locally because they’ve left a folder with genuinely useful information — not the usual glossy tourist brochures, but actual recommendations for where to get groceries, which bus routes work best, that sort of thing.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to work for everyone. If you want room service and a concierge, keep looking. But if you’re after a proper base in London that feels more like staying in someone’s well-appointed guest flat rather than a hotel room, this hits the mark. The 7.8 rating makes sense — it delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it’s not.
I’d come back, especially for longer stays when having that kitchen and the extra space actually matters. Sometimes the best places are the ones that just work without making a fuss about it.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
