ME London by Melia – Covent Garden
First Impressions
Walking up to ME London by Melia – Covent Garden on the Strand, you immediately get that “this is different” feeling. The building itself has this dramatic Gothic Revival thing going on — honestly, it used to be a government building, and you can tell. There’s something wonderfully imposing about the façade that makes you pause before stepping inside. Once you’re through those doors though, it’s like entering a completely different world of sleek, contemporary luxury.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is actually brilliant if you know London well. You’re right on the Strand, which means you can walk to Covent Garden’s buzz in about two minutes, but you’re far enough from the absolute chaos of the piazza itself. Somerset House is practically next door — perfect for that evening stroll along the Thames. What I really love is how you can slip down to the Embankment and suddenly you’re by the river, watching the city lights reflect on the water.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows that made me feel like I was floating above London. The design is modern and bold — lots of clean lines and rich textures that somehow manage to feel both luxurious and comfortable. You know what struck me most? The attention to lighting; they’ve got it just right, whether you’re working at the desk or winding down in the evening. The bathroom feels like a proper retreat, with marble details that remind you this is definitely a five-star experience.
Dining & Social Spaces
The rooftop bar — well, that’s where things get interesting. The views across London are genuinely spectacular, and it’s become quite the scene in the evenings. The restaurant downstairs serves up contemporary European cuisine that’s actually worth writing home about. I mean, you could easily eat elsewhere in Covent Garden, but why would you when the food here is this good? The lobby area has this energetic vibe that makes it feel more like a stylish meeting spot than a typical hotel reception.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it balances that luxury hotel experience with genuine London character. The building’s history gives it gravitas, but the contemporary interiors keep things fresh and exciting. You’re staying somewhere that feels distinctly British but with an international flair — which makes sense given it’s part of the Melia group. The staff actually seem to enjoy working here, and that energy is infectious. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying somewhere that locals consider a destination too, not just a place where tourists crash for the night.
