Lovely Studio Room in the heart of Kingston upon Thames
First Impressions
The Lovely Studio Room in the heart of Kingston upon Thames is exactly what it says on the tin — a well-appointed studio that puts you right in the thick of things on Old London Road. I’ll be honest, the name sounds a bit generic, but don’t let that fool you. This three-star spot actually delivers on its promise, tucked into a Victorian building that’s got character without being fussy about it.
Location & Getting Around
You’re basically a two-minute walk from Kingston upon Thames town center, which means the shopping at Bentall Centre is right there, along with all those riverside pubs along the Thames Path. What I really appreciated was being so close to Kingston station — you can hop on a train and be in Waterloo in about 25 minutes, or catch the bus that runs every few minutes down to Wimbledon. The Saturday market at Ancient Market Place is practically on your doorstep too.
The Studio Setup
The room itself is cleverly laid out — they’ve managed to fit everything you need without it feeling cramped. There’s a proper double bed (not a sofa bed, thank goodness), and the kitchenette has a decent-sized fridge, microwave, and even a little dining table where you can actually eat comfortably. The bathroom’s compact but functional, with good water pressure in the shower. Honestly, for a studio, the storage space surprised me — there’s a wardrobe that’ll fit a week’s worth of clothes easily.
Neighborhood Feel
Old London Road has this nice residential vibe during the day, but you’re close enough to the action that evenings don’t feel dead. There’s a Tesco Express literally around the corner for basics, and if you want something more interesting, the independent shops along Castle Street are worth exploring. The Rose Theatre is about a five-minute walk if you’re into live shows, and the riverside walk down to Ham House makes for a lovely afternoon when the weather’s decent.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the balance — you get the independence of your own space with the kitchen facilities, but you’re not stuck out in some residential nowhere. The 8.3 rating makes sense because while it’s not trying to be fancy, everything just works properly. The Wi-Fi is solid, the heating keeps the space warm, and there’s even parking available if you’re driving (though you probably won’t need the car much once you’re here). It’s the kind of place where you can pop out for a pint at The Boaters or grab dinner at one of the Turkish places on London Road, then come back to your own quiet space to decompress.
