First Impressions
Lovely Studio Afc sits on a quiet stretch of Blackstock Road in London‘s Islington borough — honestly, I walked past it twice before spotting the entrance. It’s the kind of understated four-star place that doesn’t scream for attention, which actually works in its favor. The building has that classic London townhouse feel, and you get the sense this used to be residential flats that were thoughtfully converted into studio accommodations.
The Space
The room itself is where this place really shines. I mean, calling it a studio is accurate — you’ve got your sleeping area, a compact kitchenette, and a sitting space all cleverly arranged without feeling cramped. The kitchenette surprised me with how well-equipped it was; there’s a proper hob, microwave, and even a decent-sized fridge. Perfect if you want to grab groceries from the Sainsbury’s down the road instead of eating out every meal.
Location & Neighborhood
Islington gets overlooked by a lot of tourists, but that’s their loss. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, and the Finsbury Park tube station is close enough that getting into central London takes maybe twenty minutes. What I loved was the local vibe — there’s this brilliant little Turkish restaurant called Likya just around the corner that does incredible lamb dishes. The area feels properly residential but with enough cafes and pubs that you won’t feel isolated.
Practical Details
Street parking can be a bit tricky during the day (typical London, really), but evenings and weekends are manageable if you’re driving. The wifi worked perfectly throughout my stay, which matters when you’re trying to plan day trips or just catch up on work. Housekeeping comes by regularly, though with the kitchenette setup, you do feel a bit more self-sufficient than in a traditional hotel room.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to win any design awards, but it does exactly what it promises. The value is solid for London standards — you get your own space, the freedom to cook your own meals, and you’re staying in a neighborhood where actual Londoners live. I’d definitely book here again, especially for longer stays when hotel breakfast gets old and you want to feel less like a tourist. It’s the kind of place that grows on you.
London’s apartments welcome long stays with terrace views, museum access, and bike routes to hidden mews streets.
