Overview

First Impressions

The London Central Modern Apartment Charlton sits in a sleek residential building that honestly feels more like upscale city living than your typical hotel stay. When I first walked into Valiant House, I was struck by how quiet it was — you know, that kind of peaceful atmosphere that’s surprisingly hard to find in London. This four-star property delivers exactly what its name promises: modern, well-appointed spaces that feel genuinely contemporary without trying too hard.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about staying in Greenwich — you get all the perks of being in London without the constant buzz of tourists and traffic. The apartment is perfectly positioned for exploring the area’s maritime history (the Cutty Sark is just a short trip away), but you’re also well-connected to central London via the DLR and National Rail. I actually found myself enjoying the quieter evenings here, which is something you rarely get when staying in Zone 1.

The Space

What really sets this place apart is how it feels like an actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. The modern furnishings aren’t just for show — everything’s functional and thoughtfully placed. The kitchen is properly equipped (I mean, you can actually cook a proper meal here), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without everything feeling cramped. The large windows let in plenty of natural light, which makes the whole space feel even more open.

Practical Matters

One thing I really appreciated was having my own parking space — honestly, that’s worth its weight in gold in London. The building’s security is solid without being intrusive, and the lifts are reliable (trust me, this matters when you’re hauling luggage). The Wi-Fi actually works properly throughout the apartment, which isn’t always a given even in newer buildings. Small details like proper blackout curtains and decent water pressure show that someone’s actually thought about what guests need.

Why Guests Love It

With its 7.9 rating, this place hits that sweet spot between independence and comfort that many travelers are looking for. You get the freedom of having your own space — perfect for longer stays or when you just want to decompress properly after a day of sightseeing. The Greenwich location means you’re close to some of London’s most interesting attractions (the Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park, the weekend markets) without paying central London prices or dealing with the constant crowds. It’s the kind of place where you can actually imagine living, not just staying.

The host was really responsive when we arrived to drop our bags off before the cleaner had arrived, the previous guest had basically trashed the place. We were asked to delay our proper check in and we were contacted later in the evening to check everything was OK and offered to meet us to discuss any further issues. After the clean up, the flat was perfectly acceptable and really comfortable as well as being in an excellent location for travelling to central London, Greenwich and the O2. Just don't expect anything other than it is, a basic but comfortable place to stay when you are out most of the day

"Terrible bed mattresses"
Location
What could be improved: Bed mattresses - like wooden boards completely uncomfortable, not closable WC door, bathroom shower hose to short and all windows dirty. This box of rubbish was welcome after opening main door.

"The state of the flat justifies at least a cleaning fee refund for us and previous tenants."
- The view from the bedroom windows is decent, quite a nice view of the London skyline. The kitchen also looks over the local football pitch, so you may be able to watch some amateur football through the cracked window for free. - The distance from the train station was decent, with some great connections. - The property holder didn't come to collect the safety deposit throughout the stay despite us prompting him to check in, so we had some extra money to spend at the end of our stay. - The carbon monoxide alarm does in fact exist. - There was a communal trash chute on the floor, though there wasn't any labelling and the openings were so small we had to transfer some rubbish into a new bag by hand. - There's a larger business park nearby for any grocery/shopping needs. Though walkable, it is more suited to access by car. - No bed bugs!
What could be improved: - While we had the extra spending money at the end of our stay, there was almost no contact with the owner other than asking when he would be there to pick up the deposit. - safety deposit is in cash and mentioned briefly in the policies. Whether intentional or not, it acts as a hidden fee. - The mattresses were rock-hard. They may fix your back problems or create more. - Windows fell off latch, meaning that they could be opened to the adjoining wall. Not safe at all considering the fact this flat is on the sixth floor. - The mouldy fried mushrooms left in the oven, mouldy bread left in the upper cupboards, and the tissues and empty bottles under the beds suggest the owner doesn't properly check the flat after a stay. - The lack of any plugs, washing-up bowl, or rubber gloves meant that we had to buy our own cleaning supplies. Other tenants likely had the same issues, as shown by the cutlery and cookware being covered in food and grease when we arrived. - We also had to borrow a neighbour's baking tray due to the flat lacking one, as well as needing to buy a colander. Other tenants probably had this problem, as the oven racks were very dirty. - We were charged a cleaning fee in the room cost despite having to clean the plates, bowls, glasses, cutlery, and cookware on arrival, needing to dispose of mouldy food, and needing to clean the oven to get rid of the mould smell from the mushrooms. - A lot of the walls had cracks and scuffs from the handles of door that don't close or lock properly. You can see between the toilet and the living room due to the lock not working. - multiple mystery stains on the sofas and armchairs. - red plastic caps over most of the sprinklers in the flat, in spite of a warning from the Fire Chief's office about them in the lobby. - interconnected extension cables in the bedroom, which is obviously a fire risk. - The extractor fan in the bathroom doesn't work.
