Liverpool Street Retreat
First Impressions
Honestly, when I first walked up to Liverpool Street Retreat, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a four-star property tucked into Steward Street. It’s one of those quiet residential blocks in Tower Hamlets that you’d probably walk past without noticing — which, as it turns out, is actually part of its charm. The building itself is unassuming, but once you’re inside flat 1, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about what travelers actually need.
Location & Getting Around
You know what’s great about this spot? You’re literally a five-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station, which means the City is right there, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of staying directly on a main road. London can be overwhelming, especially around the financial district, but this little pocket of Tower Hamlets feels refreshingly calm. I found myself walking to Brick Lane for dinner most nights — it’s maybe ten minutes on foot through some lovely old streets that give you a real feel for this part of the city.
The Space Itself
The apartment setup works really well if you’re staying for more than just a quick business trip. There’s a proper kitchen with everything you’d actually use — not just a mini-fridge and a kettle like so many places. The room felt spacious enough that I wasn’t constantly bumping into my suitcase, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. I mean, after walking around London all day, that matters more than you’d think.
Practical Considerations
Look, I’ll be straight with you — this isn’t the Ritz, and at a 7.3 rating, it’s not trying to be. What it is, though, is well-maintained and thoughtfully set up. The wifi actually works properly (tested it on multiple video calls), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower. Small things, but they add up when you’re dealing with the usual travel stress. Parking can be tricky in this area, so if you’re driving, definitely sort that out in advance.
Why It Works
This place hits that sweet spot between hotel convenience and apartment flexibility. You get your own space to spread out and actually live a bit, but without the hassle of dealing with a proper rental. The Tower Hamlets location means you’re close enough to everything that matters — the City for business, Shoreditch for nightlife, the Thames for weekend walks — but you’re not paying premium prices for being right in the thick of it. It’s the kind of place I’d book again, especially for a longer stay when you want to feel like you’re actually staying in London rather than just passing through.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
