Overview
First Impressions
Lilac at Hammersmith sits quietly on a residential street that feels more like a local secret than a tourist trap. When I first walked up to this four-star boutique hotel, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the exterior is understated in that distinctly British way, but step inside and you’ll find something genuinely charming. The lobby has this warm, contemporary feel that immediately tells you someone put real thought into the design.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of London — you’re actually living like a local rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble. Hammersmith has this great mix of proper pubs, independent coffee shops, and that everyday London energy that you miss when you’re staying near Big Ben. The District and Piccadilly lines are a short walk away, which means you can be in central London in about 20 minutes, but you get to retreat to somewhere that feels more authentic at the end of the day.
The Room Experience
My room was smaller than what you’d find in a chain hotel, but it was thoughtfully designed — every inch actually serves a purpose. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. What struck me most was the attention to detail: proper blackout curtains, decent lighting for reading, and — this might sound minor — enough outlets in the right places.
Practical Perks
The staff here knows what they’re doing without being overly formal about it. They’ll give you actual recommendations rather than just handing you a tourist map, and they seem to remember guests’ names. Parking can be sorted if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car from this location. The breakfast situation is solid — nothing fancy, but fresh and well-prepared.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Lilac at Hammersmith work is that it gets the balance right between being professional and feeling personal. You’re not just another guest checking in — the place has character without trying too hard. It’s the kind of spot where you can have a proper conversation with the person at reception, and they’ll actually remember what you talked about the next day. For the price point, especially considering you’re still in London proper, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

"Overall can absolutely recommend it and we will come again!"
The property is comfortable and has everything one needs for a nice family stay in London. Fantastic location with great cafes and restaurants in walking distance (can particularly recommend the delicious coffee and sandwiches at Brother down the road). Communication was very pleasant and quick, all in all a great value for money little place 🤗
What could be improved: Parking situation is tough - we came by car and you need to be really aware of the parking wardens.

"Fab location and very quiet"
Terrific location, very near both Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush tubes. Remarkably quiet, spacious rooms, hot water & heating OK, everything worked. Very clean, bedding fresh, beds firm but comfy. Asked for earlier check-in & was accepted so we didn't have to wait around for hours.
What could be improved: The bath is acrylic so very slippery. If you have flat feet you MUST bring a bath mat else you'll have to hold on to the shower rail, which makes it hard to wash properly. Adequate crockery but if you want to cook you do need to bring your own equipment as there is only a roasting tray, bread and santoku knives and a sieve.

The location of the flat was very convenient. We found it clean and comfortable.
What could be improved: The shower head was very low, we had to stoop to shower.

"Ideal accommodation for exploring the city"
Very good location, close to the underground and buses. Ideal location for exploring London. Many shopping and dining options nearby. Our dear host allowed us to drop off our suitcases earlier on the first day and we were even able to check in earlier, which was a very nice gesture because we could start exploring earlier.
What could be improved: More sockets and bedside tables in the rooms would be more convenient.

"Surprisingly spacious and quiet"
The property was well situated with shops and cafes on the doorstep... Gails is a must for coffee/breakfast!
10-minute walk to Hammersmith Tube Station.
About 15-20 minutes walk to the beautiful Holland Park.
The apartment was spotless, though a little tired in places.
The kitchen had all the basics we needed, and the beds were incredibly comfortable.
Considering it is just off a busy road it is surprisingly quiet, especially in the bedrooms.
It was lovely and warm, which we were so glad of as we visited in the cold snap!
What could be improved: Although it is all one level once inside, there is a big step to gain entry to the apartment, which was rather difficult to get up with an automatic collapsible mobility scooter.
Need a bedside lamp in the second bedroom, we moved the floor lamp from the lounge each night, but that is very heavy.
A comfier sofa after a day of sightseeing around London would have made the stay even better.
The description said the apartment's highlight was a hot tub... there wasn't one. Description needs updating as there also wasn't a bidet (not that we'd have used it!)
