First Impressions
Kathleen House Plus sits on Baker Street in Enfield, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you. From the outside, you might walk past thinking it’s just another converted Victorian house, but step inside and you’ll realize this unique boutique hotel without official star rating has character that most chain hotels could only dream of. The owner clearly put thought into every corner — there’s this lovely mix of original period features and modern touches that actually works.
Location & Getting Around
Enfield isn’t central London, I’ll give you that, but here’s what I discovered — you’re about 20 minutes from King’s Cross by train, and the area has this authentic North London feel that tourists rarely see. Baker Street here isn’t the famous one (that’s the Sherlock Holmes street in Marylebone), but it’s got its own charm with local pubs and cafes that haven’t been gentrified yet. The train station is maybe a 10-minute walk, and there’s actually decent parking if you’re driving, which is pretty rare around London.
The Accommodation
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how some boutique places try too hard? This wasn’t that. The bed was genuinely comfortable, and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually had proper water pressure. What I appreciated most was the attention to details like decent lighting for reading and enough plug sockets near the bed. The walls are a bit thin though, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs.
Breakfast & Dining
There isn’t a full restaurant here, but the breakfast setup works well enough. They do a proper English breakfast if you want it, plus continental options, and the coffee is better than you’d expect from a smaller place like this. The dining area feels more like someone’s conservatory than a hotel breakfast room, which I actually found quite pleasant. You’re not going to get room service or anything fancy, but for what it is, it does the job.
Why Guests Appreciate It
Look, Kathleen House Plus isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works. If you want marble lobbies and concierge services, book somewhere else. But if you appreciate staying somewhere with personality, where the staff remember your name and the owner clearly cares about the place, then you’ll get it. It’s perfect for travelers who want to experience London beyond Zone 1, or anyone who values character over corporate polish. Just don’t expect five-star amenities — expect something more genuine instead.
