Overview

First Impressions

Imperial Whitechapel Apartments sits right on the corner of Whitechapel Road, and honestly, the location tells you everything about what to expect. This apartment-style accommodation feels more like stepping into someone’s well-maintained flat than checking into a traditional hotel. The building has that solid London character — not flashy, but dependable in a way that grows on you.

The Space

What I actually loved about staying here was having a proper kitchen to work with. You know how rare that is in central London without paying through the nose? Each unit feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile, with decent-sized windows that let in more light than you’d expect. The room layouts make sense too — someone clearly thought about how people actually use space when they’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.

Location & Getting Around

Whitechapel Road is one of those streets that’s constantly buzzing, which means you’re never short of places to grab food or pick up essentials. The Whitechapel Gallery is literally a few minutes’ walk if you’re into contemporary art, and I found myself wandering through the East London Mosque area quite a bit — there’s something authentic about the neighborhood that feels refreshing. You’ll get to Aldgate East or Whitechapel stations without breaking a sweat, so the rest of London opens up pretty easily.

The Reality Check

Look, this is a three-star place, and it shows — but not in the ways that actually matter. The furnishings aren’t going to win any design awards, and you might hear the occasional bit of street noise (it’s Whitechapel Road, after all). But the fundamentals work well: decent water pressure, reliable Wi-Fi, and parking that doesn’t require a second mortgage. I mean, finding affordable accommodation with kitchen facilities in Zone 1 is pretty much winning the London lottery these days.

Why Guests Love It

The freedom is what gets people coming back — being able to cook your own breakfast, spread out properly, and actually feel like you’re living in London rather than just visiting. It’s especially brilliant if you’re staying for work or planning to explore East London properly. The staff seem to get that most guests here are looking for independence rather than hand-holding, which works perfectly. Plus, you’re saving enough on restaurant bills with that kitchen to justify a few extra days in the city.

Exploring London blends royal heritage, UNESCO landmarks, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with golden-hour light.

"Spacious apartment in a lively area with great food and easy transport"
We stayed here for a week and were very happy with our stay. The apartment was surprisingly spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room. It had everything we needed. The area is lively with lots of grocery stores and restaurants within walking distance. If you enjoy authentic food, especially Bengali cuisine, this neighbourhood is perfect, there are plenty of great places to eat. The underground station is within walking distance and bus lines stop right outside the building, making it easy to get around the city. The location is ideal if you want to explore both central London and the east side.
What could be improved: The area is very lively and the bedroom windows face the street, so it can get quite noisy at night. If you're sensitive to noise, I recommend bringing earplugs.

"Successful stay - but I’m afraid I can’t recommend it, unless you’re very self confident!"
Lots of space & good kitchen / living areas. It was very hot when I stayed & the 3 good quality fans provided were much appreciated! Great location in terms of places to eat / the tube / food shopping / access to the City. Very clean & someone had obviously thought about things that might be useful (ironing facilities / foldaway cot etc).
What could be improved: The location & security level. I (female) stayed with my Mum’s who’s 78 and the tea shop downstairs had a crowd of (perfectly nice) men chatting outside from about 8pm to about 3am each evening. Not your fault - but it felt intimidating to need to make our way through the crowd (probably 10-15 men) to key in the code in front of them, in order to gain access. And it was summer, so the nights were light. I really wouldn’t want to do it in the dark (although maybe not so many men hang around in the winter). There were no women - it wasn’t a mixed crowd. They were quite loud & made it impossible to have the bedroom windows open or to sleep, really. Sorry - I know there’s not much you can do about this! Upstairs it was another key code and there was no security chain or bolt, so I was uncomfortable about security - anyone with the code could have walked in at any time & given we were already a bit wobbly, this wasn’t good. While I’m being picky, the towels were a bit thin / scratchy / grey and the bathroom was v small and had a dodgy lock.

"Good for staying close to central London and nightlife but not family"
It’s spacious comfortable
What could be improved: It was on the main streets so constant high noise level. the store owners downstairs only went bed after 4am. The entrance to the apartment smell really bad but the apartment it self smell nice I feel like the place itself is ok but the community let them down. But it’s a good place if you want to go central London for night life but not for family with 1 year old to sleep well.

"Great modern apartment near the centre of London!"
The location being very close to Whitechapel tube station made getting into central very easy! The apartment was very clean and modern.
What could be improved: The windows were not double glazed so we could hear a bit of noise from the street below.

"Great spacious and clean apartment"
Really spacious apartment, nicely decorated throughout. Living area and kitchen were generous for spending time together. Good shower pressure, full sized fridge and functional kitchen with loads of crockery for cooking. 5 minutes walk to the Elizabeth line
What could be improved: The lock to the apartment is fiddly, it's a digital lock which we found hard to negotiate. Bedrooms on road side, so can be noisy if you're not used to that.

"Disappointing"
It was nicely decorated and painted. Close to Whitechapel train station.
What could be improved: It felt a little unsafe for a solo female traveler. A lot of people approached me begging for money. It was noisy at night requiring ear plugs. The directions for turning on the heat refer to knobs on the left side of each room, which don’t exist. Once I figured out on my own how to turn on radiators, they still didn’t work because the boiler wasn’t turned on. This step also needs to be included in directions for guests. Can feel the springs in the bed mattress.
