Overview
First Impressions
The ibis London Blackfriars sits right on Blackfriars Road, and honestly, you can’t miss it — it’s this clean, modern building that feels refreshingly straightforward after navigating London’s maze of Victorian architecture. I mean, sometimes you just want a hotel that doesn’t try too hard, you know? The lobby’s bright and efficient, with that signature ibis style that somehow manages to feel both contemporary and welcoming without being overly flashy.
Location That Actually Makes Sense
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a two-minute walk from Southwark station, which connects you to pretty much everywhere via the Jubilee line. The South Bank is right there, so you can stroll along the Thames to Shakespeare’s Globe or cross Blackfriars Bridge to reach the City in about ten minutes on foot. Plus, Borough Market is just down the road, which means you’ll smell those amazing food stalls on weekend mornings.
The Room Reality
Look, this is a three-star hotel, so don’t expect huge spaces — but the room I stayed in was surprisingly well-designed. Everything has its place, the bed’s actually comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and there’s decent storage for a few days’ worth of stuff. The shower’s got good pressure too, which you can’t always count on in London. The windows face different directions depending on which floor you’re on, but even the ones overlooking the street aren’t too noisy.
Practical Perks
The 24-hour reception thing is genuinely useful — I’ve arrived on late flights and never felt rushed or unwelcome. There’s a restaurant attached that serves basic but decent food, though honestly, with Borough Market and all the South Bank options nearby, you’d be mad not to explore. They’ve got reliable wifi throughout, and the air conditioning actually works properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the no-nonsense approach — you get exactly what you expect from ibis, but in a location that gives you easy access to both tourist attractions and authentic London neighborhoods. The staff seem to actually know the area well, so they’ll point you toward the good pubs in Southwark rather than just handing you a generic tourist map. For the price point, especially compared to hotels in central zones, you’re getting solid value and a base that makes exploring London genuinely convenient rather than just theoretically possible.
Guest reviews
"Great price/quality"
The location is great because you are 20 minutes walking from the Big Ben and also 20 minutes from St Paul Cathedral. Also, Blackfriars station is very near and it has very good connections.
What could be improved: The bathroom is slightly small.

"A wonderful day, great location, but just the food let it down for me"
The location was great. The room was absolutely clean. Smell absolutely wonderful.
What could be improved: The food I’m a vegetarian and it wasn’t a great choice for me and what I did had was cold and the breakfast great choice for breakfast but still a bit cold for me. I know it was a buffet breakfast but still a little bit cold for me.

"Great hotel, spacious room, good facilities and location"
Super speedy check-in and check-out, friendly staff. The room was spacious, clean and had coffee/tea making facilities .
We would definitely recommend this hotel for both work and holiday travel. We would stay here again.
What could be improved: The bathroom door needed slamming to close it, which is not ideal at night time or early mornings.

"Hotel was good but the service wasn’t"
Room was clean, we were given all the necessary stuff as mentioned in the description
What could be improved: I raised a concern with the property on message regarding the fact that another guest was offered an early check-in opportunity that was not extended to us. We were told that we “should have asked for it at the same time” but I found this quite unfair, as I believe all guests should be given equal opportunities. The other guest didn’t even request early check-in; the staff proactively offered it by themselves.
In response, we were instead offered a late checkout, something we couldn’t even make use of due to our flight schedule. I would expect hotel staff to understand that many travelers have fixed travel times, and offering something unusable does not resolve the issue.
Overall, I was highly disappointed. I have stayed at other Ibis locations, such as Ibis Deira Dubai and Ibis Tallinn, and have never experienced something like this before. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet the standard I expected.

"Good location if you like Southbank. Very lovely staff."
Very convenient location - Southbank is walkable, a supermarket nearby, and a tube station also very close. Quieter part of London.
