First Impressions
House – Sleeps 8 – Garden – Parking caught me off guard in the best way possible. Tucked away on Shepherds Close in Romford, this four-star property feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s house than a typical hotel. The moment you pull up, you’ll notice there’s actual parking right on-site — honestly, that alone makes this place worth considering if you’re driving around the outskirts of London.
The Space That Works
What really sets this place apart is how thoughtfully it’s designed for groups. The main living areas flow naturally together, and there’s enough space that eight people don’t feel like they’re tripping over each other. Each room has its own character, though I’d grab one of the upstairs ones if you can — better views of the neighborhood and a bit quieter. The whole setup just works, you know? It’s that sweet spot between having your own space and being able to hang out together.
Location & Getting Around
Romford gets overlooked by a lot of travelers, but it’s actually pretty smart positioning. You’re about 30 minutes from central London by train, which means you get the suburban quiet without being completely cut off from the action. The local high street has everything you need — decent pubs, a Tesco for supplies, and some surprisingly good curry houses. I mean, it’s not Covent Garden, but sometimes you want to see how actual Londoners live.
The Garden & Practical Bits
The garden is probably my favorite feature — it’s not huge, but it’s properly maintained and gives you somewhere to sit with a coffee in the morning. There’s outdoor seating that actually looks comfortable, not just decorative. Inside, the kitchen is well-stocked enough that you can cook proper meals if you want to save money or just fancy staying in one night. The WiFi works everywhere (I tested it), and there are enough plugs and USB ports that everyone can charge their devices without negotiating.
Why Groups Love It
This place just makes sense for families or friend groups who want more than a cramped hotel room but don’t want to deal with the hassle of a complicated rental process. The hosts clearly understand what travelers actually need — good shower pressure, blackout curtains that work, and common areas where you can spread out. It’s that practical comfort that makes the difference between a decent stay and one where you actually relax.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
