Hotel Indigo London – Kensington by IHG
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Indigo London – Kensington by IHG, you immediately notice how they’ve managed to sidestep that chain hotel blandness that can make every place feel the same. The lobby has this warm, residential vibe with deep blues and golds that somehow feel both modern and timeless. You know what I mean — it’s stylish without trying too hard, which is honestly refreshing in London where so many hotels either go completely over the top or play it painfully safe.
The Kensington Advantage
The location on Barkston Gardens is actually pretty brilliant if you know the area. You’re tucked away on a quiet residential street, but Earl’s Court tube station is literally a three-minute walk — I timed it. This means you can be in central London in fifteen minutes, but when you come home at night, you’re not dealing with the chaos of staying right in the thick of things. The South Kensington museums are close enough for an easy morning stroll, and there are some genuinely good local pubs nearby that most tourists never discover.
The Room Experience
The rooms at this four-star property have character, which isn’t something you can say about every hotel in this price range. Mine had these lovely neighborhood-inspired murals and enough space to actually unpack properly — you’ll appreciate that after living out of a suitcase for a few days. The bed was properly comfortable, and I mean that in the best British sense where everything just works without fanfare. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with a shower that actually had decent pressure (honestly, this shouldn’t be noteworthy, but here we are).
Food and Facilities
The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill downstairs is the hotel’s main restaurant, and while it’s not groundbreaking, the steaks are solid and the service is reliable. What I actually preferred was grabbing breakfast there — proper English breakfast done well, plus some lighter options if you’re not ready for the full experience. There’s also a small fitness center that gets the job done, though don’t expect anything too elaborate. The real charm is in the details — the staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work, not just going through the motions.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it strikes that perfect balance between being part of a reliable hotel group and maintaining its own personality. You get the consistency and standards you’d expect from IHG, but with enough local flavor to make it feel like you’re actually staying somewhere specific to London. The neighborhood location means you can live a bit like a local while still being incredibly well-connected to everything you want to see. It’s the kind of place where you’d be happy to stay for a week without feeling trapped, but also perfect for a quick few nights if you’re just passing through.
