Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel du Vin Cannizaro House Wimbledon honestly feels like you’ve stumbled onto the set of a period drama. This Georgian mansion sits right on Wimbledon Common — not just near it, actually on the edge of it — and the moment you see those elegant windows and that perfect stone facade, you know you’re in for something special. The whole place has this timeless quality that makes you forget you’re still technically in London.

The Setting

You know what’s brilliant about this location? Most people think Wimbledon and immediately picture tennis courts, but this four-star hotel gives you access to 1,100 acres of common land where you can actually walk for hours without seeing another soul. I mean, you’re twenty minutes from central London by train, but step out the back and you’re surrounded by woodland and open heath. The contrast is pretty remarkable — one minute you’re in this sophisticated hotel restaurant, the next you’re watching horses graze like you’re in the countryside somewhere.

The Room Experience

Each room feels individually designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate, which you notice immediately. Mine had this wonderful bay window overlooking the gardens, and honestly, the attention to detail impressed me — proper Egyptian cotton sheets, a seriously good shower, and those little touches like decent coffee facilities that actually matter. The decor strikes this perfect balance between classic elegance and modern comfort, so you’re not feeling like you’re staying in a museum.

Dining & Atmosphere

The bistro-style dining here deserves a mention because it’s not trying to be overly fancy — just really good food in a relaxed setting. What I loved was how they’ve managed to create different moods throughout the building; the bar area has this cozy, intimate feel perfect for evening drinks, while the conservatory breakfast space feels bright and airy. There’s also decent parking on-site, which — let’s be honest — is gold dust around here.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gives you the best of both worlds without compromise. You get that boutique hotel charm and personal service that makes you feel looked after, but you’re not paying central London prices or dealing with central London crowds. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work for you, whether that’s restaurant recommendations or helping plan your day around the tennis if you’re here during the championships. It’s the sort of place where you can have a proper London experience while actually being able to breathe and relax.

"Great post-Christmas treat"
Fabulous hotel in a great location. The staff were wonderful and our room was very comfortable. We found a great deal which meant that our excellent breakfasts were included. A great post-Christmas treat.

"Beautiful Hotel"
We have stayed at Hotel du Vin many times and have always been impressed with the quality of hotels offered. The location is excellent-good transport links to central London. A bonus too that the hotel is dog friendly.
What could be improved: Please don't start turning into a chain which starts charging for simple 'add ons'( like many airline companies I could mention). An additional £12 for parking. An additional £25 for the dog. This really cheapens your otherwise perfect brand.

"Lovely welcome , very nice grounds, relaxing and comfortable hotel"
Did not have breakfast, just coffee , we asked if there were any croissants and our lovely waiter provided them for free
What could be improved: Location is about 15 minutes walk to the upper village, as it rained during our stay the mainly unsurfaced footpath to the village was very mucky and wet. It badly needs to be surfaced.

Excellent and comfortable bedroom; conveniently located in Wimbledon and suitable for working in Central London as it was my case.

"Unforgettable weekend"
Excellent location, wonderful staff, amazing ambience.
What could be improved: The room furnitures are really worn out and do not do service to this beautiful hotel. Maintenance is questionable.

"Lovely venue"
The manageress on arrival & the team were very welcoming & friendly & secured bubbles & breakfast. Looked after by the bar staff before our meal with a wonderful waitress. Met the mangeress again & had a lovely chat.
What could be improved: Although the orangery was lovely at night, seeing people exercise their dogs on the common whilst having breakfast was a little off putting & would say may be blinds would be a good idea. I cant believe you still charge for parking when staying overnight or longer.
