Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Horangee Pocha on New Kent Road, you might wonder if you’ve stumbled into something special or just another budget spot trying too hard. Honestly, it’s a bit of both — and that’s actually what makes it interesting. The Korean-inspired signage stands out against the typical London streetscape, and there’s this genuine energy about the place that feels refreshingly different from the usual chain hotels dotting Southwark.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re right in the thick of London’s buzzing Southwark area, which means Borough Market is practically on your doorstep — I mean, we’re talking a 10-minute walk to some of the best food stalls in the city. The Elephant and Castle station is close enough that you won’t be dragging your luggage too far, and honestly, the transport links are solid for getting anywhere central. New Kent Road itself isn’t exactly picturesque, but it’s real London — the kind of street where locals actually live and work, not just where tourists take photos.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed, with this interesting Korean aesthetic that doesn’t feel forced or gimmicky. You know what surprised me? The attention to small details — proper blackout curtains (essential in London summers), decent water pressure, and a bed that’s actually comfortable for a three-star place. The Wi-Fi works well enough for video calls, though I wouldn’t rely on it for anything mission-critical during peak hours.
Food & Atmosphere
Here’s where things get genuinely interesting — the ground floor restaurant serves Korean street food that’s way better than it has any right to be at a mid-range hotel. I grabbed dinner there twice during my stay, and the kimchi jjigae was proper comfort food after long days exploring the city. The staff clearly takes pride in the food, which isn’t something you can say about most hotel restaurants in this price range. There’s this communal vibe during meal times that reminded me more of Seoul than South London.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, Horangee Pocha isn’t trying to be something it’s not — and that’s refreshing. It’s a solid base for exploring London without the corporate blandness of bigger chains or the quirks (and higher prices) of boutique places. The Korean theme feels authentic rather than trendy, probably because the owners seem genuinely passionate about sharing their culture. For the price point and location, you’re getting good value and a bit of personality — which in London, honestly, counts for a lot.

"Amazing stay, I would stay again!"
I had a great stay at Horangee Pocha. The linens were provided regularly and Ryan was so helpful to us when we were checking in and requesting help. We didn’t get to try the Karaoke at night, but the restaurant downstairs was cozy and had great food and ambiance. Thanks Horangee Pocha!
What could be improved: If you are not used to city noise, you may have an issue with the rooms facing the street as it gets a bit noisier on weekend nights since it is a main road.
(Also sorry my photos aren’t the best, forgot to take more photos)

"A simple, small, but clean and confortable room. Worth the price."
The cost was really worth it

"Clean basic accommodation, does what it says on the tin."
Good location, near elephant and castle.
What could be improved: Getting heavy luggage up and down the narrow stairs was tricky.

"Quick to respond"
They were very quick to rectify any issues that I had with the room. This was very good to see because I had a short stay. They could not check me in early but offered their neighbours establishment to store my luggage until I could check in. This was a very nice option, considering I had two backpacks.
Overall, it was good value and good response for any issues from the hosts.
What could be improved: The room was small, which I knew based on booking, but I wasn't sure why check-in time was at 4:30pm when most places are at 3pm. The room is not that large for cleaning and they do not have many of them. So, like I said, they did offer the luggage storage location next door. However, sometimes when you get to your destination, you want to get settled and then see the sights. Not wait an extra 90mins to check-in or no wiggle room to check in early. Very busy street with lots of emergency activity (police, ambulance sirens), but it is a good location for transit and walking distance to food.
This busy activity is not their fault, of course.

"Great place near city center for bed and bath"
Nearby supermarkets, bus stop, train station
What could be improved: Small and steep stairs which is not friendly if you have heavy bags/luggages

"Great place, value for money"
Was clean, had everything I needed, staff were very helpful.
What could be improved: There was no aircon and only a small fan that did not do too much.

"Simple yet comfortable."
The cleanliness, the pure comfort. Tea making facilities. A fan in the room was great
What could be improved: There was no sign saying that it is a hotel. We only noticed the restaurant & someone helped us to find it.

"Good location, but needs a bit of TLC."
Location was great for easy access to the tube. The bed was comfy and Wifi worked well.
What could be improved: The room was a bit dated, damp/mould in the bathroom and bedroom wall from a previous leak. The laminate flooring was tired too.

What could be improved: They didn’t follow up with my request I gave them.
