First Impressions
Home from Home sits on a quiet stretch of Goodmayes Lane, and honestly, the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this place. It’s one of those three-star spots that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just a solid, well-run guesthouse that actually delivers on making you feel comfortable. The building itself is a classic Victorian terrace that’s been thoughtfully converted, with that kind of understated charm you find all over this part of East London.
Location & Getting Around
You know what I really appreciated about staying here? Ilford might not be Central London, but it’s incredibly well-connected — Goodmayes station is literally a five-minute walk away, and you’re looking at about 25 minutes to Liverpool Street on the Elizabeth line. The area’s got this authentic, residential feel that tourists rarely experience. There’s a proper high street nearby with everything from Turkish groceries to decent curry houses, plus parking is actually manageable here (try finding that in Zone 1).
The Accommodation
My room was surprisingly spacious for what I paid — clean lines, modern fixtures, and they’ve clearly put thought into the little details. The bed was genuinely comfortable, not just “fine for one night,” and the bathroom had excellent water pressure. Some rooms come with a compact kitchenette, which is brilliant if you’re staying for more than a couple of nights or traveling with family. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout the building, and there are plenty of power outlets (small thing, but you notice when they’re missing).
Service & Atmosphere
The staff here run a tight ship without being formal about it — they know their regulars, remember your preferences, and genuinely seem to care about whether you’re sorted. I mean, this isn’t a place with a fancy concierge desk, but the person at reception could tell me exactly which bus to catch to Westfield or where to find the best fish and chips locally. It’s that kind of practical, no-nonsense helpfulness that actually matters when you’re trying to navigate a new area.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Home from Home — it’s earned that 9.4 rating by consistently doing the basics really, really well. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or a spa, but you’re getting clean, comfortable accommodation with people who actually care about your stay. For business travelers who need easy transport links, families wanting space to spread out, or anyone who prefers authentic neighborhoods over tourist zones, this place just works. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll sleep well, start your day properly, and not spend half your budget on accommodation.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
