You’re twenty minutes from central London by train, but the pace here is completely different. I mean, you can walk to Sutton High Street in about eight minutes from Heaven, and there’s this lovely mix of independent shops and cafes that you just don’t find in the touristy areas. The Secombe Theatre is practically around the corner if you’re into local productions.

The room I stayed in was… well, it wasn’t trying to be something it wasn’t, and I appreciated that. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed, with one of those showers that actually has proper water pressure. Sometimes the simple things make all the difference, you know?

There isn’t a formal restaurant on-site, but honestly, that works in your favor here. The staff pointed me toward this fantastic Turkish place just down the road, and I ended up eating there twice during my stay. Plus, if you’re the type who likes to grab groceries and eat in, there’s a Tesco Express within easy walking distance — though I should mention the rooms don’t come with cooking facilities.
