First Impressions
Guests House sits on a quiet residential street in Peckham, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you. The building itself is unassuming — just a converted Victorian house — but there’s something welcoming about how they’ve maintained the original character while making it feel modern. You know what struck me first? The attention to detail in the entrance, which feels more like walking into someone’s well-designed home than a typical hotel.
Location & Getting Around
Moncrieffe Street is actually in a pretty sweet spot if you’re looking to experience London beyond the tourist traps. Peckham’s had this incredible transformation over the past few years — there are brilliant independent cafes, vintage shops, and some of the best street art in the city just a short walk away. The nearest station is Queens Road Peckham, which gets you into central London in about 20 minutes. I mean, you’re not exactly next to Big Ben, but that’s sort of the point.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully laid out — this three-star place really maximizes every inch of space. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and they’ve got those little touches that matter: proper reading lights, enough plugs for your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work. The bathroom was small (as you’d expect in a converted house) but clean and modern, with a decent shower that had good pressure.
Dining & Local Flavor
There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, you don’t need one when you’re in Peckham. The breakfast they serve is simple but solid — fresh pastries, decent coffee, and the basics done well. What I loved was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood and could point you toward the best local spots. There’s this incredible Nigerian place around the corner, and a weekend market that’s become quite the destination for food lovers.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.7 rating makes sense when you stay here — it’s not trying to be something it’s not. The staff genuinely care about making your stay comfortable, and there’s this relaxed vibe that feels refreshingly unpretentious. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but they’ll help you figure it out. This is the kind of place where you’ll meet interesting travelers who chose character over chain hotels, and where you’ll discover a side of London that many visitors completely miss.
