Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Greyhound Hotel on High Street feels like stumbling upon someone’s incredibly well-curated home rather than a typical hotel. This unique boutique property doesn’t fit into any neat category — there’s no official star rating because honestly, it defies that kind of classification. The building itself has this wonderful Georgian character that you’ll find throughout Carshalton, but inside it’s been transformed into something quite special.
The Setting
Carshalton is one of those South London villages that locals want to keep secret, and the Greyhound sits right in the heart of it all. You’re literally steps from Carshalton Ponds — these beautiful historic water features that make the whole area feel surprisingly rural for being just 30 minutes from central London. I mean, you can walk to the station easily enough, but you’re also surrounded by proper countryside walks if that’s more your thing.
The Room Experience
Each room here tells its own story, which sounds cheesy but actually rings true. The owners clearly spent time thinking about the details — vintage furniture mixed with modern touches, and bathrooms that feel indulgent without being over-the-top. What I really appreciated was the attention to practical stuff too, like proper lighting for reading and decent coffee-making facilities that aren’t just an afterthought.
Dining & Social Spaces
The ground floor operates as a proper gastropub, and the restaurant serves food that’s several notches above your average hotel dining. They source locally where possible, and you’ll often find yourself chatting with locals who’ve wandered in for dinner. The atmosphere shifts throughout the day — business meetings over coffee in the morning, leisurely lunches, then a proper neighborhood pub vibe in the evenings.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try too hard to be anything other than what it is — a thoughtfully run local establishment that happens to have lovely rooms upstairs. The 8.9 rating makes perfect sense when you experience the genuine hospitality and realize you’re staying somewhere with real character. It’s the kind of place where staff remember your name and locals become temporary friends over a pint.
London hotels keep travelers close to Tower Bridge views, iconic shopping streets, and tube lines to world-class museums.

"Great place!!"
The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast selection was excellent—it was hard to choose because everything on the menu sounded (and tasted) delicious. Dinner at the pub was perfect! I also have to mention the staff: they were all welcoming and always made my stay great.
What could be improved: Nothing

"Comfortable , lovely location"
Tasty breakfast
What could be improved: I was disappointed that there was a charge for travel cots for our twin 6 month old granddaughters. We had never ever encountered this before and it was actually cheaper to buy our own. This in turn impacted on our visit as the cots took up a lot of luggage room in our car .

"Excellent stay/pub 🍷"
Beautiful hotel and pub. Excellent location to where we regularly visit. Food is delicious 😋 and quality produce. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, this is our third visit/stay and certainly our choice of a place to stay whenever visiting our family
What could be improved: Slight mix up during our evening meal but nothing that spoils our stay and disappointed the shower gel wasn't full in our room for us both to use

"Hard to find better"
The Greyhound is a charming hotel - a real home from home. It is warm, comfortable and very friendly. The food is good and the room beautifully designed and maintained. As an elderly guest, I applaud the layout of the staircase, which is progressive and reassuring. This makes the absence of a lift much more acceptable. This was our first visit but quite possibly not our last.
What could be improved: Not a lot.
