Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Gloucester Terrace Gem on a quiet tree-lined street in Paddington, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the unassuming Victorian facade. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about it. This four-star townhouse hotel sits perfectly between the tourist chaos and that authentic London residential feel — which is actually pretty rare around here.
Location That Actually Works
The location is genuinely brilliant, and I mean that without the usual travel writer hyperbole. You’re literally two minutes from Lancaster Gate tube station, which gets you to Oxford Street in about ten minutes or Notting Hill in five. What I really love though is how you can walk to Hyde Park’s Speaker’s Corner in the morning, grab coffee from one of the local cafés that actually serve locals (not just tourists), and still be back for a quick refresh before heading out again.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor — no lift, just so you know — but worth the climb. These converted Victorian houses have character that modern hotels just can’t replicate, with original moldings and tall windows that actually open (rare in London hotels, trust me). The beds are properly comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped, which is saying something for central London.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in a cozy ground-floor dining area that feels more like someone’s well-appointed dining room than a hotel restaurant. The full English is solid — not fancy, but done right with proper sausages and eggs that aren’t overcooked. I actually found myself lingering over coffee here, planning my day while watching the street wake up outside. There’s something calming about starting your morning somewhere that doesn’t feel like a tourist factory.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances that boutique hotel attention to detail with genuine warmth from the staff. They know the neighborhood — like really know it — and will point you toward that excellent Lebanese place around the corner or tell you which pub has the best Sunday roast. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in London rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. Plus, with an 8.5 rating from actual guests, it’s clear I’m not the only one who appreciates what they’re doing here.
To book hotel in London for fashion week buzz, travelers reserve early to pair Westminster sunrise walks with evening pub rituals.

"Great location, and very clean"
Location was very good
What could be improved: The bath sheets/towels were the smallest and thinnest I've ever seen, and I've been around a few places around the world.
The place could do with a lick of paint.

"Spacious clean appartment"
The apartment is spacious, clean and well equipped. It is located in a basement floor, so we felt a bit unsafe to sleep with open windows. The beds are rather small. Great to have two showers. It was clean and nice. The location is good, 5 min walk from Paddington station.

"Near the tube, spacious would be great if the apartment didn’t smell and the showers were sorted out"
Spacious and clean
What could be improved: The apartment had a funny damp smell all the time and the shower heads in both bathrooms pointed down so you had to hold them up while you were showering which was difficult when using shower gel and shampoo. They didn’t fit right

"Overall is still good experience to stay."
2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and 1 toilet is good and a comfortable living room. Location is good.
What could be improved: Bed cushion is too thin, can feel spring metal when sleep.
Some dish and kitchen knife was not clean.
