Gladstone Lodge
First Impressions
Honestly, Gladstone Lodge caught me off guard — and I mean that in the best way. Tucked away on a quiet residential street in Cricklewood, this unique boutique hotel feels more like stumbling upon someone’s impeccably designed home than checking into a typical London accommodation. The Victorian facade gives nothing away, but step inside and you’ll find something genuinely different from the cookie-cutter hotel experience.
Location & Getting Around
You know what? Cricklewood isn’t exactly where most tourists plant their flag, but that’s precisely what makes this place interesting. You’re in a proper London neighborhood where actual people live, shop, and go about their daily lives. The Dollis Hill tube station is about a 10-minute walk, putting you on the Jubilee line with direct access to Westminster and Canary Wharf. I actually found myself enjoying the authentic residential vibe — there’s a brilliant Turkish restaurant just around the corner that locals frequent.
The Rooms
Each room here tells its own story, which sounds cheesy but it’s actually true. Mine had this wonderful mix of period features and modern touches — think original cornicing paired with contemporary artwork and really thoughtful lighting. The beds are proper comfortable (I’m particular about mattresses), and the bathrooms feel more boutique hotel than budget accommodation. What struck me most was the attention to small details — decent coffee, quality toiletries, and enough parking space that I wasn’t playing luggage Tetris.
The Experience
This isn’t a place with a flashy lobby or 24-hour room service — it’s more intimate than that. The staff genuinely seem to care about your stay rather than just processing you through. I mean, when I mentioned I was heading to a meeting in Hampstead, the manager actually drew me a little map showing the best walking route through Gladstone Park. It’s that kind of personal touch you don’t expect anymore. The communal areas feel lived-in and welcoming, perfect for actually relaxing rather than just passing through.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you’re after a grand hotel with marble everything and a concierge in white gloves, this isn’t your spot. But if you want something with character in a real London neighborhood, where you’ll sleep well and feel like you’ve discovered something off the beaten path, then Gladstone Lodge delivers. The 8.3 rating makes sense — it’s the kind of place that either clicks with you completely or leaves you wondering where the usual hotel amenities are. For me, it was definitely the former.
