Overview
First Impressions
Flat near Angel St City University & Tube- MAC 1 sits on Central Street in Islington, and honestly, the location caught me off guard in the best way. You know that feeling when you stumble onto a street that feels authentically London without being touristy? That’s what you get here. The building itself — Maccelsfield House — has this solid, understated presence that fits right into the neighborhood’s mix of converted Victorian warehouses and modern developments.
Location & Neighborhood
Angel tube station is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which means you’re connected to basically everywhere without the chaos of staying right in Zone 1. London can be overwhelming, but Islington strikes this perfect balance — you’ve got proper local pubs, independent coffee shops, and that Sunday market on Chapel Market that most tourists never find. City University is practically next door, so there’s this vibrant student energy without it feeling like a college town.
The Space
What I really appreciated about this four-star place is how they’ve managed to create a proper living space rather than just a hotel room. The flat setup means you’re not cramped into a tiny box — there’s actual breathing room. The kitchen is functional enough that you could actually cook if you wanted to, though with all the great food options around Angel, I’m not sure why you would. The whole place feels like someone’s well-maintained London flat rather than a sterile hotel.
Getting Around
Here’s what I mean about the location being smart — Angel tube gets you to King’s Cross in about 10 minutes, and from there you’re connected to everywhere. But honestly, I found myself walking more than I expected because this part of Islington just invites exploration. You can stroll down to Camden Lock if you’re feeling ambitious, or head the other way toward Clerkenwell for some of the city’s best bars. The neighborhood has enough character that you don’t feel like you need to escape it constantly.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but that 8.3 rating makes sense once you’re here. It’s the kind of spot that gets the fundamentals right — clean, comfortable, well-located — without trying to be something it’s not. You’re staying in a real London neighborhood where people actually live and work, not some sanitized tourist bubble. The flat gives you independence and space, Angel gives you connectivity and local flavor, and somehow it all just works together in a way that feels natural rather than forced.

"Comfortable, clean, easy access to shops, restaurants, transportation."
Location. Clean. Had everything we needed. Spacious. Marios was quick in his communications, very helpful and gave us an early checkin. Thanks Marios
What could be improved: Bathroom and kitchen a bit dated and had drainage issue. Not dirty or unhealthy just water was a bit slow draining from just the wash basin and sink.

"Great place, Will come again"
Nice apartment in a quiet residence/area but close to shops (pubs, restaurants, supermarkets). Less than 10 min walk from Old Street station. Very convenient for East London lovers, yet close to the more touristy center. Marcos and his team were very friendly and accommodating, especially when it came to managing our luggage.

"Clean Budget apartment close to local amenities, no frills helpful owner"
It was a good price relative to the local properties and was clean and well presented. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful and there were good choices for food close by.
What could be improved: The front door could have done with feeling that bit more secure other than that it was a fine for the low cost.

"Fantastic accommodation great host"
Fantastic location for an overnight London stay. Property was perfect - clean and comfortable and very easy to find and access. The host was also extremely responsive and prompt with all communication and sent very clear instructions explaining access etc
What could be improved: There was nothing I disliked

"Overall very happy with the choice, thanks to the location and the value for money."
We had a very good time at the apartment. The building's age shows but the apartment is well renovated and well equipped. The location is good, not great but good. It is like 10' walk from the closest underground station, but what surprised us positively was how easy it was to catch a bus to go to Soho etc, just by using Google Maps.
All of the above are amplified by the great (for London) value for money.
What could be improved: The apartment was clean and I have no specific complaint, but at the same time it did not feel "professionally clean" (I say that as an experienced Airbnb host).

"Great flat for a short or long stay. Fantastic location!"
The flat was light and had everything that we required for our stay. The location was perfect. And the flat had nice homey touches and was very clean
What could be improved: The bed was a memory foam of sorts, but felt as if i was sinking in the middle. The kitchen tap dripped. The toilet made a lot of noise after flushing.

"Good base for our London visit"
Location was very good
Size of unit was good for two persons
Balcony was good for drying washing
Appreciated that there was a good supply of detergent, soap etc as well as tea bags & come other cooking supplies
What could be improved: No toaster
Bed very low to floor, linen not great quality
Window latches need servicing
No significant issues, but property would benefit from some general maintenance
