Overview
First Impressions
Farringdon Rooms sits on Aldersgate Street in a Victorian building that’s been converted into what I’d call a smart budget option in the City of London. The exterior doesn’t scream “hotel” — you might walk past it thinking it’s just another office building, which honestly makes it feel a bit like a hidden gem. It’s definitely a three-star place, and they’re not trying to pretend otherwise.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the financial district, which means fantastic transport links but without the tourist chaos you get around Covent Garden or Westminster. Barbican station is about a five-minute walk, and you can reach pretty much anywhere in London from there. The Barbican Centre is practically next door if you’re into arts and culture, and you know what, having those brutalist towers looming nearby actually gives the area character.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed — think modern efficiency rather than spacious comfort. You get the essentials: decent bed, small desk, good WiFi, and a bathroom that’s tight but functional. The decor is contemporary without being flashy, with neutral tones and simple furnishings that feel fresh rather than budget-y. Actually, the soundproofing impressed me given how busy this part of the city gets during weekdays.
Practical Considerations
Don’t expect a full-service hotel experience here — there’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re surrounded by incredible food options. Smithfield Market is a short walk away, and the pub scene around here is fantastic (try The Blackfriar if you get a chance). The staff keeps things simple and efficient — check-in was quick, and they were helpful with directions without being overly chatty.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it knows exactly what it is. You’re getting clean, comfortable accommodation in one of London’s most connected areas without paying West End prices. The business travelers seem to appreciate the no-fuss approach, and for visitors, you’re perfectly positioned to explore both historic London and the modern city. I mean, you can walk to St. Paul’s Cathedral in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to trendy Shoreditch for evening entertainment.
Hotel in London reservations surge before major festivals, so smart travelers lock in skyline rooms months ahead.

"Great location, very clean"
Really clean, good instructions and communication for checking in, comfortable bed and nice to have a nespresso machine in the room too!
I was in room 6 on the top floor at the back of the property and it was really quiet too.
The room was small - I think if there were two of you for more than one night it would feel a bit poky, but for a solo traveller it was perfect.
What could be improved: It would have been good to have some little milk sachets / pots. The hairdryer was a bit dodgy!

"Good value for money, well located, very clean"
Good location for the City of London. Very clean room, comfy bed.
What could be improved: Shower could have been more powerful but the en suite was spotlessly clean.

"If you are using as a base to get ready and sleep for a night out, it is an ideal, affordable place to stay for 1 night"
Great location as it wasn’t far from where i needed to go for the evening. The communication before I arrived was really good and I had no issues accessing the room. It was a nice touch with the coffee machine (although a couple of extra pods or 1 other choice of coffee would have been nice). The shower stuff was good as well. The room was clean with enough towels provided. The bed was comfy enough. For a one night stay it was fine, if you are going to an event and only using as a base to sleep it is worth it.
What could be improved: The only thing was the road noise and other people coming and going which I know can’t be helped. It don’t change anything about my stay and as a female who was travelling alone I felt safe enough. The only other slight issue I had was the pressure in the shower was low and it was freezing in the room first thing this morning. Maybe a kettle would also be an added bonus as the 2 espresso coffees were unfortunately not enough, but again it didn’t change my view of my stay.

"Easy place for business travelers to the city."
Convenient location. Quiet. Fair price. Little details like the Nespresso machine and shampoos and earplugs were appreciated. Note: I did not need earplugs
What could be improved: Stairs are a bit tight, but it’s an old house.

"Great hotel at a good price"
The location, the room was clean, bed comfortable,. Ensuite had everything I needed.
Host was very friendly and offered to help when he saw me struggling upstairs.
What could be improved: The stairs and no lift...as I'm disabled I hadn't expected the stairs and had had to climb several flights from the underground so was really tired on arrival at the hotel, my fault for not checking the hotel was suitable for people with poor mobility.
The shower door would not slide closed.

"Good for a short stay"
Convenient and clean with a comfortable bed. Good towels. Good value for money. Really appreciated being able to drop off our luggage at 11:30.
What could be improved: Everything was petite. Stairs, room, bed, shower. Once you opened your luggage the room was full. Fine for a short stay

"Very good"
Great location, quiet at night time, early bag drop possible, comfortable bed.
What could be improved: The shower temperature adjustment was broken and so it was stuck on the hottest setting! Would have been nice to gave a kettle for a cup of tea and it was not obvious where the hair dryer was stored.
