Overview
First Impressions
Elegant 2-bedroom flat next to British Museum sits in one of those classic Georgian mansion blocks that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a proper London postcard. Bernard Mansion on Bernard Street — yeah, I know, not the most creative naming — but honestly, the location more than makes up for any lack of imagination there. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the British Museum’s main entrance, which means you can actually beat the tourist crowds if you time it right.
The Space
This apartment feels like what Londoners actually live in, not some sterile hotel setup. The two bedrooms are properly sized — I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without climbing over the bed, which is more than I can say for half the places in London. There’s a decent kitchen too, and you know what? After spending £15 on a mediocre sandwich near tourist spots, you’ll appreciate being able to make your own coffee and grab breakfast before heading out.
Location Perks
Here’s the thing about staying right next to the British Museum — yes, it’s touristy, but Bloomsbury has this academic, literary vibe that feels authentically London. You’re surrounded by university buildings, quirky bookshops, and those little squares where locals actually sit and read. Russell Square is basically your back garden, and the tube connections from there are brilliant — you can get anywhere in the city without much fuss.
Neighborhood Reality
The area gets busy during museum hours, sure, but evenings are surprisingly peaceful. There’s a Tesco Express around the corner for essentials, and some decent pubs tucked away on the quieter streets — I found this little place called The Lamb that locals seem to actually frequent. The four-star setup here means you get proper amenities without paying West End prices, which honestly feels like winning the London accommodation lottery.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you want to feel like you’re living in London rather than just visiting, this works really well. You’ve got space to spread out, you can walk to major attractions, and when you’re tired of sightseeing, you can actually retreat to somewhere that feels like home. The building itself has character — those high ceilings and period details that make you understand why people get obsessed with London architecture in the first place.

"Would use again"
Location and space in flat was lovely everything you needed but we did not use
What could be improved: The clothes horse packed with wet washing which smelt damp and no instructions for to use tv we could only find one chanel which was a shame

"Great location and value for a family or group needing two bedrooms"
The location was excellent. And though the apartment was quite small, it allowed privacy for our family (me, my husband and adult daughter) with separate bedrooms, bathrooms and a living area. The apartment was well appointed. The host was very responsive.
What could be improved: It was on the third floor and the lift wasn’t working - issue for me with a bad hip and my husband with bad knees. Also there was only one key so we had to coordinate who had the key to be available to let the others back in.

"Fantastic, we would stay here again."
We loved this apartment! The location is great, right across the road from Russell Square tube, supermarket, pubs and park down the road. The apartment itself was quirky with some cool artwork and a great outlook over the intersection where you could sit with a cup of tea and watch people coming and going. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, all very neat and tidy. The second bedroom had bunks, the top bunk is a bit of a climb up. There is a shower in this bedroom. There is a separate toilet and basin. Kitchen was adequately stocked, had everything we needed. (3 women staying 76, 52, 19)
What could be improved: We liked everything. The only thing for us was that is was on the 3rd floor, we had to drag our luggage up. Note that there is a lift - we just couldn't get it to work?

"Good location, some small repairs and it is almost perfect!"
Location was perfect for a family trip! Every room as it is own temperature regulation. 2 toilets and very cool bunk bedroom! Perfect for family.
What could be improved: Coffee machine and oven did not work. Was a little bit cold because of old windows, but we got heating to work better then it was ok.

"Would stay there again based on location, comfort and amenities."
Location was absolutely fantastic. Big enough for a family a four (university age kids.) Two full bathrooms and 3 fullsize beds were a plus. Warm and comfortable space.
What could be improved: Evident that property hasn't had proper upkeep in a while (drains clogged, lights/switches not working, wonky microwave.)

"Very good"
Location was fantastic and literally across the street from the Russell Square tube station. Roomy flat and comfortable home base. Really great use of space and storage much more roomy than the pics really capture. Lots of options for food/groceries and pubs with fantastic food all within a block. Washing machine was a plus as well as small fans provided. Plenty of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, diswashing etc). Host was responsive weeks before our trip and worked with us on a delayed arrival. Check out was easy, just put the keys in the lockbox and nothing more so that was nice before our long haul flight home.
What could be improved: There is a lift but super small and a bit scary so if you have any issues with stairs this is not a good location for you. No toilet paper in either bath at arrival after a 4 hour train ride in - an unfortunate surprise but offered to reimburse us for purchasing. Neither safe was usable host did offer to get another one within a day (we did not request it after all). Intro to the property was really brief, how to lock the door that was pretty much it. Flat has some wear and tear, cracked mirrors on closet doors, handle not secure on shower, just some minor maintenance needed. Instructions for the flat either via email or a folder in the location would be very helpful ( like turning off the heat, where to put the trash, etc) and would prevent alot of back and forth texts to host. The gentleman who was the host was really responsive by text to be fair.

"Great"
Just opposite to Russell Square Station and has a number of bus routes nearby. Spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is wonderful.
What could be improved: We need to walk up stairs to reach the elevator. And then the elevator cannot reach that floor. So we have to carry the luggages on stairs.
