DoubleTree by Hilton London Kingston Upon Thames
First Impressions
The DoubleTree by Hilton London Kingston Upon Thames sits right where you’d want it — close enough to central London that you don’t feel cut off, but far enough out that you’re not paying crazy city center prices. When I first walked into the lobby, I was honestly surprised by how spacious and bright it felt. The four-star property has that polished Hilton feel without being overly corporate, and yes, they still do the warm chocolate chip cookie thing at check-in (which never gets old, honestly).
Perfect Thames-side Location
Here’s what I love about staying in Kingston upon Thames — you get this lovely riverside town vibe that feels distinctly English, but you’re only about 25 minutes by train into central London. The hotel’s just a short walk from Kingston’s main shopping area and the historic market square. You know what’s really nice though? You can actually stroll along the Thames path right from here, and on a decent day, it’s one of those walks that reminds you why people fall for this part of England.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor facing the courtyard — not the most exciting view, but it was quiet, which I actually preferred. The bed was properly comfortable (they use those signature Hilton beds), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathroom’s modern and well-lit, though I mean, it’s not huge — but everything works perfectly and the water pressure’s solid.
Dining and Amenities
The on-site restaurant serves decent British and international fare — nothing groundbreaking, but the full English breakfast is proper and they do a nice evening menu if you can’t be bothered venturing out. There’s also a fitness center that’s actually well-equipped (not just two ancient treadmills), and honestly, the staff throughout the property seem genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. Parking is available on-site, which is a real bonus if you’re driving — not always a given with London-area hotels.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gives you that reliable Hilton standard while putting you somewhere that feels authentically English rather than just “London hotel room number 847.” Kingston has character — there are proper pubs within walking distance, independent shops, and that riverside setting that makes you want to linger over a coffee. The hotel itself strikes that sweet spot between professional service and not being so formal that you feel like you need to dress up to walk through the lobby. For the money, especially compared to what you’d pay for similar quality closer to central London, it’s honestly a smart choice.
