Overview
First Impressions
Clockwork London Flats caught me off guard in the best possible way. You know how some places just feel right the moment you walk in? This apartment-style accommodation in the heart of the City of London has that understated confidence that comes from actually understanding what travelers need. The building itself blends seamlessly into the historic streetscape, but inside there’s a refreshingly modern sensibility that doesn’t try too hard.
Location & Getting Around
Being right in the financial district means you’re literally surrounded by centuries of London history — St. Paul’s Cathedral is practically around the corner, and you can walk to the Thames in about three minutes. What I really appreciated though was how quiet it gets after the office workers head home. During the day it’s bustling with that proper City energy, but evenings feel surprisingly peaceful for being so central to London. The Tube connections are honestly excellent from here — you’ve got multiple lines within easy walking distance.
The Apartment Experience
This is where Clockwork really delivers on its promise. Each unit comes with a proper kitchen that’s actually functional (not just a mini-fridge and a prayer), and the space feels like someone’s well-appointed London flat rather than a generic hotel room. I mean, there’s real counter space, decent cookware, and even a dishwasher in most units. The living areas have that comfortable, lived-in quality without being cluttered — think quality furniture that’s meant to be used, not just photographed.
Practical Details That Matter
The three-star rating might suggest something basic, but honestly, the execution here feels more thoughtful than a lot of pricier places I’ve stayed. WiFi actually works properly throughout the building, there’s decent water pressure in the showers, and the beds are genuinely comfortable. Parking isn’t included (this is central London, after all), but there are several options nearby if you’re driving. What impressed me was the attention to small things — proper blackout curtains, USB charging points where you actually need them, and enough storage space to properly unpack.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.1 rating starts to make sense when you realize this place gets the balance right between independence and service. You’re not dealing with daily housekeeping if you don’t want it, but the staff are genuinely helpful when you need them. It’s perfect for longer stays or anyone who gets a bit claustrophobic in traditional hotel rooms. Plus, there’s something satisfying about being able to grab groceries from the nearby Tesco Metro and actually cook a proper meal after days of restaurant dining. For families or anyone traveling with dietary restrictions, having that kitchen flexibility is honestly priceless in a city where eating out gets expensive quickly.
Guest reviews
"All in all it was a fabulous stay. We would definitely return should we get to visit London again."
The studio apartment was lovely, with everything we needed to be comfortable. The location is exceptional - right down the street from St Paul's cathedral. We walked everywhere and took advantage of the local restaurants. Transit is right outside the door.
What could be improved: It was a long hike up the staircase to the apartment (no lift) but we didn't mind as we are active seniors. But the place wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions.

"Excellent location & comfortable stay"
The location was great - St Paul's Cathederal literally around the corner.
The accomodation was down a clean and quiet street. Comfortable bed & good shower.
We had to phone the company to use the key code to initial enter the property (pad lights up) but then it was easy to use,
We appreciated the 2x tower fans as we stayed during a heat wave.

"Exceptional"
It was such a good size for its value. Its location was so good, near multiple stations (both tube and buses), near lots of good restaurants. Amenities were perfect for my needs.
What could be improved: The very narrow staircase making carrying up luggage difficult.

"A fabulous location for a young person or young couple. Not recommended for older set or anyone with mobility challenge"
Location was absolutely perfect for me.
Easily accessed from the Main Street.
A nice sense of privacy from the hustle and bustle.
Literally half a block from city transportation, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The staff were courteous and responsive. I did have to supply my own toilet paper one day. It was a holiday. I did get an ample supply the next though.
What could be improved: I was on the third floor.
Narrow and steep stair case.
Carpet on the stairs are need of serious attention.
The tile in my bathroom floor quite severely cracked.

"Perfect location, really pleasant and fairly quiet even with all windows open (!)"
For London it was a good size. Everything I needed was there, Wi-Fi was good, kitchen was well equipped and the bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: The only thing that the maintenance team needs to look at is the floor in the bathroom - a couple of the tiles are cracked.

What could be improved: The ironing board was broken

"Very good"
The location and size of the property were fantastic. Easy to find and right off the main street. There was a washer/dryer in the unit which made the stay even better.
What could be improved: We had a 11am checkout time according to their policy however by 10am they disabled the door codes so we were unable to get back into the flat at 1015am. They did reply within 15min but disabling the code 1hr before checkout is uncalled for. The bed also needs to be changed. It sags in the middle and is very uncomfortable.

"Clockwork Apartments, London"
Location
What could be improved: No instructions on how to use the multi function oven, so no warm food. The stairs were a killer, a few things like a full salt and pepper shaker, water bottle.i the fridge, would have been marvelous. Difficult to contact anyone and with 4.oo clock check in and a 10.00 o check out the waiting time cuts into your leisure time, especially as there is a no bag drop. 4 hours should be plenty of time to clean the apartment. Also very hot, even with a fan.
