Claridge’s, Maybourne
First Impressions
Walking into Claridge’s, Maybourne feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly elegant living room — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited funds. The Art Deco lobby hits you immediately with its black and white checkerboard floors and those stunning Dale Chihuly chandeliers that somehow manage to feel both dramatic and welcoming. I mean, this five-star hotel has been hosting royalty and celebrities since 1856, and you can absolutely feel that history the moment you arrive.
Location & Heart of Mayfair
You’re right in the thick of London’s most prestigious neighborhood here on Brook Street — literally around the corner from Bond Street’s luxury shopping and a quick stroll to Oxford Street if you want the busier retail scene. What I love is how you can walk to Green Park in about five minutes when you need a breather from the city buzz. The location puts you within easy reach of everything without feeling touristy, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re exploring London.
The Rooms
Each room feels like a masterclass in British elegance — think rich fabrics, marble bathrooms, and those little touches that remind you where you are without being over the top. The beds are genuinely some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered, and the bathrooms feature heated floors (a godsend during London’s chilly months). You’ll find Asprey amenities and custom furnishings that somehow manage to feel both luxurious and lived-in, if that makes sense.
Dining & Social Spaces
The afternoon tea service is legendary for good reason — it’s held in the Foyer & Reading Room where you’re surrounded by those gorgeous Art Deco details while enjoying what might be London’s most refined tea experience. Honestly, even if you’re not staying here, it’s worth booking just for this. The main restaurant serves modern British cuisine that actually lives up to the setting, and the bar scene draws an interesting mix of hotel guests and well-dressed locals who know good cocktails.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Claridge’s apart isn’t just the obvious luxury — it’s how the staff somehow manages to be incredibly attentive without being intrusive, and how the hotel maintains this perfect balance between grandeur and genuine warmth. You’ll notice little things like how they remember your preferences, or how they’ll quietly arrange whatever you need without making a big production of it. The spa treatments are exceptional, and there’s something special about having access to this level of service right in the heart of Mayfair. It’s the kind of place that spoils you for other hotels, but in the best possible way.
