Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Charmstay King’s Cross on Caledonian Road, you’ll notice it’s tucked into one of those classic London terraced buildings that somehow manages to feel both historic and refreshingly modern. The exterior doesn’t scream “look at me,” but honestly, that’s part of its appeal — it fits naturally into the Islington streetscape without trying too hard. The entrance is clean and welcoming, with that sort of understated charm that makes you think the owners actually care about getting the details right.
Location and Getting Around
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re genuinely in London here, not some touristy bubble. King’s Cross Station is just a short walk away, which means you can be in Paris on the Eurostar or exploring the rest of the UK without any hassle. But it’s the local vibe that really won me over — Caledonian Road has that authentic London feel where you’ll find proper pubs alongside trendy coffee shops. The area’s got character, and you’re close enough to Camden and Bloomsbury that everything feels accessible without being overwhelming.
The Room Experience
My room at this three-star property was actually larger than I expected, which is saying something for London. The design strikes a nice balance between contemporary comfort and practical functionality — nothing fancy, but everything works as it should. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I mean, after a long day of walking around the city, that’s what really matters), and the bathroom was compact but well-designed. What impressed me most was how quiet it felt, considering you’re right in the heart of the city.
Practical Touches
The staff here seem to understand what travelers actually need. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and they’re the type who’ll give you proper local recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. The WiFi works reliably throughout the building, which honestly can’t be taken for granted in older London properties. There’s no on-site restaurant, but given how many excellent dining options are within walking distance, it’s not really a drawback — plus it keeps the rates reasonable.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll be posting Instagram photos of marble bathrooms or rooftop pools. But what Charmstay King’s Cross does well is provide exactly what most London visitors need: a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t break the bank and puts you right in the mix of real London life. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me — it’s solid, dependable, and unpretentious. If you want to experience London like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through, this spot delivers on that promise without any unnecessary bells and whistles.

"Great place to stay, would be nice to have a bit more security with the front windows."
Location was about a 5 minute walk to King’s Cross. The place felt quite safe and quiet, with a couple of restaurants, pubs and a Tesco nearby. Our room was located on the ground floor and was good for 4 adults, with a good amount of space available for our luggage.
What could be improved: Not a major issue for us but the ventilation for the bathroom was only through an exhaust system, so we had to keep the door open after each shower.
One bedroom was facing the front of the street, so we were hoping that the windows could be more difficult to open from the outside. However since there weren’t a lot of people going around the area it felt safe to open the windows a bit.

"Was a great stay. There was 3 of us and it was a little crowded, better suited to just 2 people."
Close to the international train station & metro lines.
What could be improved: It was smaller than I thought it would be

"Great apartment in the heart of kings cross"
Location, size & facilities
What could be improved: The bathroom is very small! Fine for one but challenging if there were 4 of you

"Great base to explore London, very comfy bed"
Great property, amazing location and really helpful people running it.
What could be improved: My only complaint is a damp smell in the bathroom and the shower was a bit small. But for the price it was really excellent.

"Very good"
Everything very clean. Nice helpfull host. The flat is very centrally located, near St Pancras International. The noise of the traffic is to be expected in this location, so no problem .
What could be improved: For a longer stay the lack of natural light would be a problem for me. It is okay if you are away during the day.

"Well situated, comfy, warm shower, a little bit small for 2 weeks, but overall nice and convenient."
Great location, host is helpful and the flat is clean and has nice welcoming touches - jam, biscuits etc. Shower works well and is warm. The beds a comfortable and have many pillows.
What could be improved: The living room is smaller than it looks but still manageable. It’s not ideal for 3 people to have a night in but tv works well, the table is big. Ideal for 2. There’s not that many spots to clear out a suitcase if you’re staying for a long time. But it’s more than enough if you’re there for up to 5 days.

"Warm apartment with all the basics you need to be confortable"
Amazing location! Supermarkets really close.
What could be improved: It’s in a basement and the apartment is quite noisy specially during the nights.

"King's Cross gem."
Very clean, warm and comfortable. All the amenities that you require in place. Two double beds in each bedroom. Clean towels. Great location. We stayed on a cold December evening, the heating was first class. If you are looking for a bolthole near King's Cross look no further. Very compact and functional and good value for the money.
What could be improved: No issues at all.
