Overview
First Impressions
When I first stepped into Central Park View, Kings Cross by Opulence Apartments, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the name — honestly, it’s a bit of a mouthful. But the reality is much simpler: this is a sleek four-star apartment setup tucked into a Victorian conversion on MacKenzie Road. The entrance feels residential rather than hotel-like, which actually works in its favor if you’re after something more low-key than your typical London stay.
The Space Itself
The apartment I stayed in was genuinely well thought out — there’s a proper kitchenette that you’ll actually want to use, not one of those token setups with a broken microwave. The living area flows nicely into the bedroom space, and they’ve managed to squeeze in a decent amount of storage without making things feel cramped. What struck me most was how quiet it was, considering you’re basically in the heart of North London’s busiest transport hub area.
Location Reality Check
Here’s what you need to know about the location: MacKenzie Road sits in that sweet spot between Kings Cross and Islington proper. You’re about a 10-minute walk to Kings Cross St. Pancras, which means Europe is basically on your doorstep if you’re catching the Eurostar. But honestly, the neighborhood itself is where this place shines — you’ve got proper local pubs within two minutes, and Upper Street’s restaurant scene is just up the road.
The Practical Stuff
The building doesn’t have its own parking, but that’s pretty standard around here — you’re better off using public transport anyway. The apartment comes with all the basics you’d expect: decent Wi-Fi, a washing machine that actually works, and a bathroom with proper water pressure. I mean, these might sound like small things, but after staying in places where the shower barely trickles, you appreciate the attention to detail.
Why It Works for Travelers
What I really liked about this place is that it doesn’t try too hard to be something it isn’t. It’s not pretending to be a boutique hotel, and it’s not trying to compete with the big chains near the station. Instead, it offers something genuinely useful — a comfortable base where you can actually live a bit like a local for a few days. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider that most guests seem to be people who value space and independence over daily housekeeping and a 24-hour concierge.

"We enjoyed the flat very much."
Great location, very clean and equipped with everything needed.
What could be improved: Entrance to building (hallway before getting to apartment) was very smelly and dirty, owners should join hands to fix that as it is a bad first impression.

"This was an ideal base for us for the two days we were in London"
The property was very good and comfortable, within easy reach of the Caledonian Road tube station, 1 stop from Kings Cross. Communication with Greg the owner was excellent.
What could be improved: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like but would suggest having a small coffee machine or cafetière

"Superb"
The fittings and furnishings were well above average for London yet at a competitive rate.
What could be improved: I locked myself out of the flat and had to get a locksmith late at night which set me back nearly £500, increasing the cost of staying at the property by over 50%.
Clearly it's not the fault of the host but it would have been nice to have an emergency spare key available 😔

"Very good choice in London"
The apartment location is great; accross the park, 5 min. walk from metro and 1 min. walk from bus stop, safe neighborhood. Decoration is nice, comfortable bad and clean linens is just perfect. The information before check in was helpful.

"Lovely London apartment - your home away from home"
- Comfortable, homey apartment - feels fresh with new decor and furniture, looks recently refurnished
- Fantastic location close to good amenities, nice local restaurants and sights closeby
- Only 5 min walk to Tube which is very convenient, so you can access all of London quickly
- Overlooks a lovely park, so nice to have greenery nearby
- Host keeps the place spotless and tidy, very nice homely feel
- Host communicates very fast, responsive and is very professional - key pickup was easy. Its reassuring the host has other highly rated properties and prizes their reputation
What could be improved: Great stay. I think the host is very receptive to feedback and I suggested some minor details which he's agreed to accomodate for my stay. All good signs of a professional host.
