First Impressions
Bright & Stylish Stay Near King’s Cross caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know what I expected from the name? Something generic and touristy. What I found instead was this genuinely well-thought-out four-star flat that actually lives up to its “bright and stylish” promise. The entrance through Brook Lodge feels more residential than hotel-like, which honestly makes the whole experience feel less touristy and more like you’re staying at a friend’s really nice place.
Location Perks
Being in Islington rather than right in the King’s Cross chaos is actually brilliant. MacKenzie Road sits in this quiet pocket where you get the residential London vibe — tree-lined streets, local pubs that aren’t packed with tourists, proper neighborhood feel. You’re close enough to walk to King’s Cross St. Pancras in about 10 minutes, but far enough away that you don’t hear the constant rumble of trains and crowds. The area has some really solid coffee shops and that authentic London pub culture you can’t fake.
The Space Itself
The apartment setup works so much better than a traditional hotel room. There’s actual space to spread out, and the kitchen means you’re not stuck eating out for every meal — which, let’s be honest, gets expensive fast in London. The styling hits that sweet spot between modern and homey, with enough personality that it doesn’t feel sterile. Large windows really do make the space feel bright, and I mean that literally — London flats can be surprisingly dark, but this one actually gets proper natural light.
Practical Considerations
Look, the 7.3 rating tells you this isn’t perfect, and I get it. The building itself is older, so don’t expect five-star hotel polish — you might hear neighbors occasionally, and the shower pressure isn’t amazing. But honestly? For the price point and location, these feel like fair trade-offs. The Wi-Fi works well (crucial if you’re working), and having your own kitchen space means you can actually live like a local for a few days instead of just surviving as a tourist.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gives you the London experience without the London hotel prices. You’re staying in a real neighborhood, you can cook your own breakfast, and you’re still incredibly well-connected to everything you want to see. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a solid, comfortable base in a genuinely nice part of the city. If you want someone to carry your bags and turn down your sheets, look elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you actually live in London for a few days, this hits the mark perfectly.

What a nice place to stay during the winter! We absolutely adored the kitchen; it was perfect for our daily cooking. It's truly a wonderful place for families with children. The host was incredibly thoughtful and always quick to respond.

"Very good"
The place was easily found and also the check in was easy done. The apartment was cozy and offered everything needed (like the stuff in the kitchen, towels, etc.). The bathroom and surfaces in the apartment were clean, the heater was working pretty good and there were food options close by. Also a bus stop direktly at the front of the apartment and the tram station very close.
What could be improved: The floor and carpet in the bedroom were a little dusty but it was still manageable.

"Very good"
We loved the location and surrounding facilities - lots of shops, a large playground and some parks in the neighbourhood. The streets felt safe and quiet, many families with children around. The Underground stations were close by and getting to all the attractions was simple. There were some hiccups along the way during our stay, but the host responded promptly and remedied our complaints.
What could be improved: The apartment was inadequately cleaned when we arrived, however this could have been due to how the host decided to run the cleaning services. Although the bedsheets were changed and the bathroom was clean, trash was left behind in the bins, and some dirty cutlery was mixed with clean one.

"Will not turn to this apartment"
Location was easily accessible from Bus and Subway. Plenty of restaurants and supermarkets in the area. Functional kitchen if you want to cook your own food.
What could be improved: Very uncomfortable double bed, sofa bed and single bed. Bad smell in the stairs and not clean. Uncomfortable pillows. We could not have good rest after long walking around the city.

"Exceptional"
Brilliant stay from start to finish. I booked last minute after another place fell through, and within minutes everything was confirmed and clearly explained. The place itself was spotless, super comfy, and had everything I needed. Great location, stylish furnishings, and top-notch service. Will definitely be booking again.

"A no frills stay with managed expectations"
Connectivity to the tube. It is not exactly at king cross station.
What could be improved: WiFi connectivity is slow and intermittent.
The passcode and details of the stay would only be released very close to the check in time.
Location is noisy due to the traffic, communal door slamming and also poor acoustic between floor to floor.

What could be improved: Ustensiles de cuisine et torchon pas très propres.
Isolation phonique quasi nulle.
Le troisième lit est un lit pliant, qu'il faut ranger chaque matin pour pouvoir circuler.
