Best Western London Highbury
First Impressions
Walking up to Best Western London Highbury on Seven Sisters Road, you might initially think you’ve stumbled onto the wrong street — this stretch of Hackney doesn’t exactly scream “tourist destination.” But honestly, that’s part of what makes this three-star hotel work. It’s tucked into a genuinely residential area where actual Londoners live, which means you’re getting a slice of real London life rather than the polished tourist bubble.
Location & Getting Around
The Finsbury Park tube station is about a 10-minute walk away, and I mean a proper walk — not one of those “5 minutes” that turns into 15 when you’re dragging luggage. Once you’re on the Piccadilly line though, you’re straight through to King’s Cross, Russell Square, and Covent Garden without any faff. The surrounding area has that authentic North London vibe — Turkish bakeries, corner shops that actually know your name after a couple of days, and the kind of pubs where locals go to watch football.
The Room Experience
My room was… well, it was exactly what you’d expect from a Best Western, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Clean, functional, with a bed that didn’t leave me cursing my booking choices in the morning. The WiFi actually worked (shocking, I know), and there was enough space to spread out without feeling like I was living in a closet. The bathroom was compact but everything functioned properly — hot water, decent shower pressure, the basics sorted.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel restaurant serves a straightforward breakfast that’ll set you up for the day without breaking the bank. Nothing fancy, but proper eggs, decent coffee, and they don’t rush you out the door. What I appreciated was the parking situation — having a secure spot in London for your car is worth its weight in gold, especially in this area where street parking can be a nightmare.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the Ritz, and it’s not trying to be. What Best Western London Highbury does well is give you a reliable base in an area that feels authentically London without the tourist markup. You’re close enough to central London to get there easily, but far enough out that you’re not paying West End prices for everything. The staff seem to actually care about making your stay work, which goes a long way when you’re trying to navigate a city that can be overwhelming.
