Overview
First Impressions
The Bedford Hotel sits right on Southampton Row, and honestly, you can’t miss it — the Victorian facade catches your eye immediately. I mean, this is proper old-school London architecture we’re talking about, the kind that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a period drama. It’s a three-star place, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s basic — there’s something genuinely charming about the way they’ve maintained that classic British hotel feel without trying too hard to be fancy.
Perfect Camden Location
You know what I love about staying here? You’re literally in Camden, which puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist circus of Covent Garden. Russell Square is just a two-minute walk away, and that’s where you’ll find the Piccadilly line — game changer for getting around the city. The British Museum is practically next door, which is brilliant if you’re into that sort of thing, and there’s this whole network of garden squares around here that most visitors never discover.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor facing Southampton Row, and while it wasn’t huge (this is London, after all), it had everything I actually needed. The bed was properly comfortable — not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in older hotels. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to fit a decent workspace into the layout, which is honestly rare in this part of town. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, and the shower had proper pressure, which you can’t always count on in these Victorian buildings.
Daily Essentials
Breakfast happens in their ground-floor restaurant, and it’s one of those continental setups that actually works well. Nothing too elaborate, but the coffee was strong and the pastries were fresh — exactly what you want before heading out to explore. The staff here are genuinely helpful too, the kind who remember your name after a day or two and can give you proper local recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Bedford Hotel — it gets the balance right between character and practicality. You’re staying somewhere with real London personality, but you’re not dealing with creaky floorboards or dodgy heating. The location means you can walk to Bloomsbury, hop on the tube to anywhere else, and you’re surrounded by proper pubs and cafes rather than chain restaurants. For the price point and that 8.3 rating, it makes perfect sense — you’re getting solid comfort in one of London’s most interesting neighborhoods without paying West End prices.
Exploring London blends royal heritage, UNESCO landmarks, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with golden-hour light.

"Clean and comfortable in a great location."
The location was great and the staff were very friendly. We were facing the street, but the room was very quiet.
What could be improved: The wardrobe smelt musty. I told the staff when I left and I'm sure it's been attended to now.

"Great central London location"
Great central London location, the room was front facing , we were on 4th level and have no complaints about noise from inside or out. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It was a very clean and tidy hotel
What could be improved: The very small bathroom with over bath shower which was in my opinion cheaply refurbished quite recently. The adjustable shower rail bracket was incompatible with the sliding shower so it slipped. Water pressure to the sink and separate WC was low. The shower pressure was fine. It was difficult to flush the WC. We didn't use the restaurant so can't comment on it.

"Charming Stay - Quiet, Comfortable, and Well Located"
Very nice, bright, and welcoming room, with a very good bed! I had a garden view, which was perfect - peaceful and quiet, with no noise from outside. I even spotted a few squirrels... and a fox (at night)! I also loved the coffee and tea making facility in the room (with cookies).
The breakfast was excellent too, very good and varied, with something for every taste.
The hotel’s location is excellent: the British Museum is just a 5-minute walk away, and both bus stops and underground stations are within a 5 to 10-minute walk.
What could be improved: N/A

"Perfect for business trips and city breaks."
The hotel's location within the city is perfect, just a few steps away from restaurants, grocery stores, cafés, as well as numerous museums and cultural attractions. The breakfast is delicious and varied, the breakfast room itself is tastefully designed and the staff are very friendly. It is significantly better than most three-star hotels, especially in London.

"A weekend in Bloomsbury"
Location to Euston. The breakfast was great, room was pleasant and clean. It was great that I got my room straight away at 8am.
What could be improved: The garden was run down, It was a mild dry morning and eating breakfast in a lovely garden would have made my stay better. There weren't enough tea bag. And providing drinking water would have been helpful.

"Spacious Hotel close to the British Museum"
I chose this hotel because of it's excellent location and good price. Some other hotels offered windowless rooms or very small rooms for this price, while in the Bedford hotel I could book a large room (Standard Twin Room) with excellent garden view. I could even see the top of the British Museum. On my last day I could leave my luggage in the hotel, that was a big help. I liked the tea and coffee in the room.
What could be improved: The shower and the tap were hard to adjust to mix the water.
