First Impressions
Arriva Hotel sits on a quiet stretch of Swinton Street in Camden, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not looking carefully. It’s one of those understated two-star places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — which I actually found refreshing after seeing so many hotels oversell themselves online. The building has that classic London townhouse feel, tucked between other period buildings that give this part of Camden its character.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I loved about staying here — you’re genuinely in the heart of London without the tourist chaos. King’s Cross St. Pancras is about a 10-minute walk, which means you’ve got direct trains to pretty much everywhere, including that Eurostar connection if you’re planning any European adventures. Camden Market is close enough that you’ll hear the weekend buzz, but far enough that you can actually sleep through the night. Russell Square is right there too, perfect for those morning walks when jet lag has you up at dawn.
The Room Experience
Look, the room isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet given the central location. Mine had everything I needed — decent bed, small desk area, and a window that actually opened (you’d be surprised how rare that is in London hotels). The bathroom was compact but well-maintained, with good water pressure that made those post-walking-around-all-day showers actually enjoyable. Storage space is limited, so pack light or get creative with your suitcase placement.
Daily Rhythms & Practicalities
The breakfast situation is pretty straightforward — nothing fancy, but they’ve got the basics covered with cereals, toast, and coffee that’s better than I expected. Staff are genuinely helpful rather than just polite, which makes a difference when you’re trying to figure out the best route somewhere or need restaurant recommendations. There’s no parking on-site, but honestly, you don’t want a car in this part of London anyway — the transport connections are too good to bother with traffic and congestion charges.
Why It Works for Travelers
You know what this place gets right? It understands its role perfectly. You’re not paying for marble bathrooms or a rooftop bar — you’re paying for a solid base in an excellent location where you can drop your bags, get a good night’s sleep, and head out to explore one of the world’s great cities. The 7.3 rating makes sense because it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For the price point, especially in London, that’s actually pretty impressive.
