Argyl – Cambridge Gardens Apartments
First Impressions
Argyl – Cambridge Gardens Apartments sits on a tree-lined street in Notting Hill that feels surprisingly quiet for London. You know what struck me first? The Victorian terraced building actually looks like someone’s elegant home rather than a typical hotel — which makes sense, since these are proper serviced apartments. The entrance has this understated sophistication that I really appreciated, no flashy signs or tourist traps in sight.
The Neighborhood
Cambridge Gardens is honestly one of those London streets that locals keep to themselves. You’re a five-minute walk from Ladbroke Grove station, but more importantly, you’re in the heart of authentic Notting Hill — not the touristy Portobello Road bit (though that’s close too). I mean, there’s a proper corner pub called The Ladbroke Arms just around the corner, and the whole area has this lived-in feel that you don’t get near the main attractions. Plus, you can actually walk to Hyde Park in about ten minutes.
The Apartment Experience
These aren’t hotel rooms — they’re actual apartments with proper kitchens and living spaces. My apartment had this lovely period character with high ceilings and original features, but everything felt thoroughly modern where it mattered. The kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped (I actually cooked dinner one night), and there’s something quite nice about having your own space to spread out in. The four-star rating feels about right — it’s polished and comfortable without trying too hard to impress.
What Makes It Special
What I loved most was how it felt like staying in a friend’s place rather than a hotel. There’s no buzzing lobby or crowds of tourists — just a peaceful residential vibe that lets you experience London like you actually live here. The staff are helpful but not hovering around constantly, which suited me perfectly. Also, having proper storage space and a washing machine (yes, really) makes all the difference if you’re staying more than a couple of nights.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you want a traditional hotel experience with room service and a concierge, this probably isn’t for you. But if you appreciate having your own space in one of London’s most charming neighborhoods — and you don’t mind the slightly residential approach — it’s actually brilliant. The value is solid too, especially considering you’re getting a whole apartment in Notting Hill. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly for longer visits when you want to feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary local.
